"Funiculi funicula"

This is the top of a Funicular railway in the hills of Tuscany. A shame it rained, but the views were marvellous all around.

Might be a bit small, this was the only size I had saved unfortunately.

But the weather/light really brings out the colours giving it an oddly autumnal tinge.

I live in Norfolk we have no great heights!

Sadly I appear to have nothing on file which fits and with my gammy leg it is unlikely I will be able to get out and take a decent picture. I'll think on this one but may have to sit it out.

I should have probably clarified that 'Such Great Heights' doesn't have to be taken to literally. Emotional highs were my initial idea when I thought of the title. It might just be easier to capture something if it is taken literally!

Also, a third of the current entries do not actually show literal great heights, but a relative one.

An oldie that i've always liked, taken with a handy wee pocket camera my wife had. The way the plane's window scrapes looked against the aerial view made me think of a William Turner painting. So, after a few attempts i got the kind of picture i wanted! So here's ........

Window Seat

Thanks Hubu - It's all down to the lens really, an old minolta AF 50mm f1.7 shot wide open.

Thanks and ooooh, technical stuff. I'm useless at that end when it comes to cameras, but i find digital hard to use, but then again i haven't really tried to experiment. I wouldn't mind a wide angle lens though, so maybe i'll treat my self for my birthday

Q1 Tower dominates the skyline around here, dwarfing the neighbours. This is the view from the observation deck.

As above, so below

I like how the idea of a journey in the path is reflected by the jet contrails in the sky.  Taken in B&W, then contrast curve adjusted and duotone applied (all global tweaks).

EDIT - no idea why this doesn't appear to be showing!  I'll try again later.
EDIT2 - Yay! it works!

Yep, The rules state that you can enter any photo, as long as it has not been entered in a previous round

so go right ahead

I don't stand a chance because this is a bit of a stonking round in terms of the pictures posted. I shall seek it out.

Some very good entries this round. I hope there's a few more to come too.

I love photos taken up through the trees, take a lot that way myself, should put some up in the other thread.

You're right it's going to be tough voting this round. The Chief's snails is a particularly nice shot.

I've just seen your church photo in the other photo thread, I think that would do very well and fits the theme. It's a great photo.
