The reason this hulk and banner worked was because he had other characters to balance this new mellow at ease attitude to being who he is. As a stand alone movie where's the dilemma if he's calm and can change at will? Nobody can kill him which we know and the same goes for Banner. There is no Arc and nowhere to follow the character. in the Avengers he's great cos he's the ultimate tag team partner but the others work in isolated movies because they're fallible. This take on the hulk won't work as a stand alone movie.

Let's be honest with good writing and good direction (Joss Whedon I'm looking at you) a Hulk movie could work very well, the comics have been running for decades and storys are plentiful, all this negativity around a movie is purely based on the two previous crappy movies. I for one thought an Avengers movie wouldn't work in a million years, too many characters not enough time .... I WAS WRONG and I'm glad I was wrong. Comic book movies have evolved and are just getting better ... so YES to a Hulk movie and let's have alittle faith that these guys know what their doing, as they clearly do.

Dave.

Not strictly speaking true, all we know from Avengers is that he can't be killed by conventional means, there's nothing to say he's invincible to something/one that we haven't yet come across.

There's also the potential, in light of Avengers, that we could see an otherwise un-debatable dilemma. If a cure were possible, would Banner still take it? As part of a team Banner/Hulk is a highly valuable asset not just to SHIELD, but to the world. We've already seen this touched on in the Incredible Hulk, he was the only one capable of taking on the Abomination. He may not feel that he has to live with the other guy, but that he should. There's a wealth of potential in that.

SPOILERS FOR FANTASTIC FOUR

Is it possible they might be worried that would just be copying the end of the first FF film, where Ben Grimm went through the same decision?

slight avenger spoilers...

Is there any scope for a Grey/Red Hulk storyline? Not that I know much about it but I think there is potential there. In all the Hulk incarnations, each one has established the Hulk as a different character which Banner has no control over yet shares similar ties. In Hulk, the hulk shares repressed memories of Banners father and at times in that film you wonder, are you looking at Banner himself trapped in that body or another personality? In TIH also there is a shared love for Betty Ross but Banner clearly states he has no control when it takes over. By the end of TIH he can now summon the Hulk (also shown in Avengers). Im not sure in the avengers if it is purely Loki playing hokey pokey with the Hulk for him to go all out, rather he is a victim of circumstance- tense arguments and an aerial strike which causes him to have no apparent control. Whereas later on he can control it, it suggests, to me anyway, that there is two beings as it were inside of him, which I only hope can add to the Jekyll and Hyde type scenario. Im not sure what the Grey/Red Hulk would achieve but it is one way of really differentiating the two. I suppose there is always the abomination to fall back on.

I watched the The Avengers and it was FREAKING AWESOME! I like them all but the Hulk/Bruce Banner STANDOUT among the rest. Mark Ruffalo did an AMAZING job and he gave JUSTICE to Hulk/Bruce Banner compared to the other 2 Hulk movies. Marvel and Disney made an EXCELLENT decision for giving the role to Mark Ruffalo. We NEED a new Hulk movie of Mark Ruffalo! WE NEED MORE!

Sincerely,
TheUniverse
