They spawned the greatest B action movies of the 80's: Death Wish 3, Invasion U.S.A., Delta Force, Cobra, Missing in Action, Masters of the Universe. They don't make movies like these anymore. They are disdained for being philistine or kitsch, but to some like me they are masterpieces. They aren't good movies in the conventional sense, but if you feel like watching something that doesn't pull punches on kills and doesn't require you to think these movies are your ticket.

Here are two amusing fan reviews just of Death Wish 3.

and

...is what Cannon was all about. And don't forget they also funded the greatest Van Damme film ever made....

This was at the same time they were funding shite like Captain America ('92 straight to video version).

Well, not the exact same time, the Cannon films we know folded five years before the Captain America film (which wasn't actually released through Cannon but 21st Century Films which was owned by one of Cannon's founders).

Masters of the Universe was one of the films that killed the original Cannon (along with Superman IV which they bought to distribute). Films like Kickboxer and Cyborg were filmed around the same time but distributed after Cannon was bought by Pathe films

Ah yes, Cannon. The studio which made a star of Chuck Norris, and raising the career of Charles Bronson. They even made the odd (semi-watchable) martial arts film every now and then.

I watched American Ninja 2 just the other day; it was cheesy yet entertaining at the same time. What a perfect example of Cannon B-movie goodness!

When the phrase "A Golan and Globus Production" came up on screen you knew a huge big steaming turd of a film would follow for the next 90 minutes, it was like a Kite mark for mediocrity.

Reading about the company's history I was surprised to read about so much shady shit going on behind the scenes. I hope the film touches on that and isn't some ass-sucking docudrama.
