First beta weekend starts tonight. Did anyone else pre-purchase?

Got a busy weekend so will only get limited amount of time but I've got high hopes.

 As someone who devoted a pretty high percentage of his time to the PvE campaigns in the original Guild Wars and its associated spin-offs, I'm kinda wishing I still had a gaming PC that could handle this.  It's been such a long time coming that to be honest I'd assumed it had been shelved.  Used to have a couple of totally bad-ass characters maxed out on the old game that could solo farm to their hearts content, particularly the dervish who was practically unstoppable when played with the right skill-set.

So, to anyone who has ventured into GW2, has the 5 years in development been kind or cruel?

I really liked it. I'm mainly into PVP and it's got me covered nicely. PVE seemed good, there's not really any quests other than your main class quest, everything else is handled with events you come across in the world. They are fairly frequent though.

It's not like other mmos where you can just sit and spam, you have to be constantly moving and dodging. If you're someone like my GF who uses arrow keys instead of wasd then it'll probably take some getting used to.

In all other areas it's pretty much as expected. An extra level of thought and polish seems to have gone into each facet though. There was no NDA on that beta so there'll be videos and articles all over by now.

 I loved it, but then I've been following the development of this thing for years!
There were a few bugs, some performance issues (especially in a big World v World fight), but it was a beta and it's not optimised yet.

 I went through a period recently of trying to get into MMOs. Tried SWTOR, WOW, Rift and a crapload of F2P ones....and nothing.

This however could be the one I wanted. Seems to balance everything....

 We already have 1 copy (my girlfriend's) in for the early access, don't think I'll be paying another 50 quid for another copy with the 3 days early access. I'm just gonna get the second copy for the regular price and join in on Tuesday. Going to be taking it casual anyway so no rush.

Going to be making a Thief, probably Sylvari.

 thinkin human thief, sylvari ranger or charr engineer

with other mmo's if i still paid the sub i'd be on WoW all the time, SWTOR got boring as soon as i level capped my bounty hunter, makin other toons was just tedious and in all honesty alot of it was due to my guild who had already run the ops a few times before i was able too, still fun tho so imma stay in the free to play mode

 Set this up on the second PC last night. It's pretty modest, Q6600, 4GB RAM and a Radeon 3870. Ran pretty well on Medium/Little bit of High and AA at 1360x768, must be processor heavy.

Haven't got a second desk anymore so connected it to the tele and set it up to work with a pad. Worked really really well, put the mouse and keyboard on a little table for when I needed them.

 I mainly just like Unload cos it makes me feel like I'm in a John Woo film - all I need are some doves!

The only time I ever experience any slowdown is in the Charr capital and start area. Something about that zone seems to do horrible things to my PC, but not all the time...

 Server I'm on is taking a bit of a battering from the other 2 in WvWvW. Been reading that people are leaving servers to join the better pvp servers, will make no difference when the rankings change soon.

 You're advancing far faster than I am - couldn't decide what to roll so I've now got 6 (and will doubtless roll the remaining 2 at some point).
Highest I've got is 13 I think!

I'm on the Underworld server, just in case we should ever be matched up in the Eternal Battlegrounds.

 Been talking to a work colleague about this, this morning and am now intrigued.  Might have a dip in to this at the weekend.  I was worried it was all WoW and I would be harassed by knobs who were far better than me (present company excluded of course...).

Been checking out the website and am interested in the professions.  Elementalist or Necromancer has caught my eye

Played Elementalist in the beta, takes a bit of getting used to but when you do get used to it it's really rewarding.

 still cant get over how pretty this game looks, spent the day exploring with tsome friends, doin the hidden jump puzzles an stuff, everywhere i go just looks amazing (even with the massive amount of buildings made of boats, think the lead designer had a thing for nauticalia)
