ORIGINAL: Castor Troy Universal are releasing 'Augmented Reality' versions of some of their biggest films. Three good things about this; 1. Fancy new artwork 2. Some films are being released seperately for the first time on Blu Ray (BTTF and Jurassic Park) 3. The prices are nice (£6.95 being the cheapest for a Blu at The Hut) I might pick up King Kong because I've always thought it would be a sweet Blu Ray to have - I'm sure DONOVAN KURTWOOD was raving about it at some point. I would post some pics but I'm typing this from my iPad and it ain't working. Oh yeah, what the fuck is augmented reality. You called? King Kong looks staggering on Blu-Ray, as NCC1701A has already pointed out, you get both cuts of the movie, the theatrical and the extended with some great action scenes added in. The commentary is fantastic as is the Picture in Picture track (which uses a lot of stuff from the making of on the DVD) however these are the only extras unfortunately. I kept my other DVDs due to this fact. Being a bit of an obsessive i have the production diaries, the region1 theatrical release and the region 1 extended 3 disc release. Anyway, that's by the by. I'd recommend the King Kong blu ray to everyone, the PQ and AQ is breathtaking. Easily one of the best looking discs out there. Augmented Reality is kinda lame, basically theres this thing on the case where if you point it at a web camera it generates a pseudo 3D image of something related to the movie. Pretty useless overall. The only difference between this and the prior release is the slipcase and artwork. I love King Kong and am almost tempted, but i dont even like the choice of artwork theyve gone with, the blu colours etc. However for those that dont own the prior release then it seems like a good idea.
