Ok, a somewhat abstract inclusion here, less to do with any specific aspect of film but more my relationship and history with film. As such, Bob Hope comedies, the Rathbone Holmes films, the universal Monster series and, most importantly, Laurel and Hardy films became favourites of mine by the time I was about 6. My dad doesn't always have the best taste in film (he recently saw and loved Avatar!) but many of my fondest childhood memories are of these afternoons and I'm deeply appreciative of them.


This is where I got most of my back-catalogue of B&Ws and, of course, Johnny Cash.

Bad action films with mine I'm afraid.

Yup completely relate this to the opening music of Star Wars. If I hear it before another film it doesn't seem right somehow.

23. Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson


Yes, Bruce's portrayal made the intelligent and capable doctor of the stories into an inefficient, bumbling buffoon but he was a loveable bumbling buffoon. There have been better version of the character on screen and many that are more true to the literary figure, but Bruce is who I immediately picture in the role whenever Dr. Watson is mentioned.

 curse of the Wererabbit is brilliant. As is that ending.

I personally like the box being worn with may contain nuts, but my favourite scene has to be where the bunny thinks he's been shot and is shooting up towards the light only to appear in the vacuum machine.

 The Wrong Trousers was on when I left the house, I've got the Wallace & Gromit theme lodged in my head now .

Were-Rabbit is great and that final shot is brilliant.

I always expect Star Wars to start after the 20th Century Fox fanfare as well, it's become synonymous with the series in my eyes.

Guaranteed to fail at the worst possible moment (and yet still more efficient than just about anything you can buy these days) Acme is most famous for being Wile E Coyote retailer of choice. Selling just about everything you could ever wish for (Christmas Packaging Machines, Hitch-Hiker's Thumbs, Iron Carrots), this long-running gad helped provide laughs through some brilliant inventiveness. I remember once, at a museum, there was as Acme product on display. I think was was soap powder and how my little heart leapt at the thought that I too could by an Integrating Pistol or a Straitjacket Ejecting Bazooka, only to have my hopes dashed when the notes for the display mentioned that the cartoon Acme was entirely fictional.

Nope, it's Roadrunner. He thripples at Wile E all the time in a really horrible away, and runs him down with lorries and trucks, and taunts him and as the Wile E cartoons are better than the Sylvester/Tweety that makes Road Runner the number 1 Looney Tunes smug bastard that needs a stamping.

 There's a Tiny Toon Adventures episode where Montana Max shouts "Acme!" out of a window, and everyone tries to work out what it means. It's the best Kane spoof I've seen.
