Such a bad break-up. We may have to choose sides.

I'd go with the person who doesn't have LOTR under the 250 mark, probably. Although kudos on the common sense approach of a single entry. #261 is awaited with deep interest.

I tried watching Fellowship just before Xmas and only managed to get half way through before I put it off. It was my first rewatch since they were originally released on DVD (the extended releases anyway) so even after a 9 year break I still couldn't watch it from start to finish. And that's the one I like the most.

I had a look at my fantasy list earlier on and I've put it far higher than it deserves for some obscene reason.

I'm such a failure. Consider it revenge for the capitalisation call-out.

To think, I was actually going to ask what else you'd have as a single post.

262. (For real this time) Following

Christopher Nolan's debut is a lovely little mindfuck (aren't all his films?) about a man who likes to follows other people and observe them. Only, things don't go entirely to plan. As far as debuts go, it's fairly low budget, where the quality comes from the script. All that has noticeably changed with Nolan is that the budget has gone up on his films somewhat, while the quality of film has stayed stratospherically high. It's a fascinating little film, and if it's evaded your attention, rectify this. Also, the main character is called Cobb. We have to go deeper...

261. This Is Spinal Tap

This has noticeably dropped, not only to allow other films in, the film dropping by default, but a conscious realisation that I don't get as much out of it as I used to. It is still a fantastic film, wittily observed, and with note-perfect performances, but it's no longer in the big leagues for me like it used to be. It now goes all the way to 261. The hit-rate of jokes is superb, and classic scenes are classic for a reason.

I haven't even seen ROTK. Clearly they're very well made films, but I just never felt the need to watch the third one. Maybe it's because I'm not really into that fantasy/sword & sorcery stuff.

Following is a good choice, as is Spinal Tap (which, now you've reminded me about it, is long overdue for a rewatch).

The bit that cracks me up in Spinal Tap is when he fusses over the olives and the tiny bread that you have to fold. And the bit regarding the interviewer not being able to even look at his guitar

South Park, Serenity, Shaun, Lilo, Henry, Gump, Zodiac, Requiem, Incredibles, Videodrome, Jungle Book, Following, Spinal Tap, Trek and Up are all various levels of good/great/brilliant.

Not seen Week End (But I must do now after rawlinson's comment) and I don't care for Ghostbusters or In The Loop. Kiki and Totoro both suck. I almost threw my monitor out of the window when I saw LOTR appear so low but then, luckily, read the blurb!

My Neighbour Totoro - meh.

In The Loop - very funny, but due a rewatch after watching all of The Thick of It this year (I did the film before the series)

Ghostbusters - one of those '80s comedies that is actually deserving of the praise and not just blind nostalgia.

Up - amazing.

Star Trek - loadsa fun.

LOTR - I will never love it as much as Gimli, but it's still fantastic.

Yay a Homer list. Read the last one with interest.
Here are my comments thus far.

300. Condorman - A childhood favourite. Have no idea how it would fare now as an adult viewer. The car is awesome.
298. Thelma and Louise - Excellent
295. Escape to Witch Mountain - Again not seen since I was a kid, but a good adventure.
289. Flight of the Navigator - Watched again quite recently and the years have not been kind.
288. Star Trek VI - Excellent one of the best Treks, not as good as Trek 2009 or Wrath of Khan though.
286. Cars - Weakest Pixar for me.
283. Pans Labyrinth - Excellent film. One of the nastiest baddies too.
282. Leon - Love it.
280. South Park -
279. Shaun of the Dead - Very Good, not as Awesome for me as others make out.
278. Serenity. made my top 60 list
274 - Forrest Gump - Tedious
273. Zodiac - Awesome. Made my top list too.
272. Requiem for a dream - A tough watch, but an excellent film. The climax truly shocked me.
271. The Incredibles - Awesome not as good as UP or Wall-E though. You could really see the directors same style in MI4 too.
269. The Jungle Book - Yeah its pretty good s'pose.
265. Ghostbusters - Yeah its a classic. Great film.
264. Up! - Made my top list too
263. Trek (2009) - again made my top list
262 - Following - I thought this was pretty average. Excellently written story, but very poor acting.

Glad to hear LOTR will be riding a lot higher.

260. The Motorcycle Diaries

I'm not a particularly political person. I take a vague interest in things from time to time, but I'm not active, really. The socio-political elements of many films probably pass me by, but that doesn't mean I'm totally oblivious. Motorcycle Diaries dramatises a motorbike ride that Che Guevara undertook in his youth which cemented for him the direction in which his life would go. It's a journey of discovery, of seeking out things only read about, to experience for hisself what the world has to offer. It is a film of great beauty, and a fascinating story in its own right, almost irrespective of who the protagonist is. That he would become a figure of significance tinges the whole film with an extra colour.

259. Kagemusha

Impossible as it is to believe, Kurosawa underwent a period out of favour. It was people like George Lucas (arguably the best thing he has ever done ever) whose love of Kurosawa's films brought him back to the fore. This colour film is often unfairly seen as a practise run for Ran, his truly exceptional adaptation of King Lear. But Kagemusha is a fantastic film in its own right. Most easily described as the same sort of story as Dave, that mid-90s comedy starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver, only with less comedy and more epic fighting. After a warlord is slain, a fool is recruited to impersonate him so as to keep the troops together and not descend into anarchy. It's a great idea, and Kurosawa's sense of scale and character do not fail him here. If you've missed this Kurosawa, do check it out.

LOTR was a worryingly successful fake entry...

258. J'Accuse

There aren't many First World War films that contain actual footage from the First World War. This is one of that august number. Abel Gance, epic silent film director par excellénce, directed this 166 minute (not his longest film) study on war which focuses on two soldiers with one woman in common: respectively a wife and a lover to each of the men. It's a brilliant achievement, with some astonishing images of war which, being at times real, make it all the more poignant. Phenomenal.

257. Scott Pilgrim Versus The World

A somewhat different prospect to J'Accuse, Scott Pilgrim was one of the cult favourites of 2010. Pilgrim must fight the seven evil exes of the girl he fancies so as to become her girlfriend. It's a very silly idea, but you'd struggle to find a romcom that has a better central couple out there. Watch it for the geektastic references, the fight scenes, and Ramona Flowers.

Motorcyle Diaries is on the very exclusive and very small list of films where I actually went out and bought the soundtrack CD. Fabulous stuff.

I need to get around to watching Kagemusha. I've had it on my to watch pile for months.

Motorcycle Diairies - I enjoyed this immensely when I watched it at the pics but have had no desire to rewatch for some reason.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World - Brilliant, I really like this. Does that make me a hipster? Awesome segue from J'Accuse to this btw

Are there any films you've maybe moved around by a place or so (at this stage it's hardly set in stone for most lists) just to get a more, um, intriguing double bill?
