290. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (NOT THE FINCHER ONE) Many thought this flawed, overlong, etc. I thought it was phenomenal. The sequel was dire, and I never saw the third one. The remake. Well, I didn't like the remake very much. This one, however, was brilliant. Hard, unrelenting, grim, and with a nice bit of mystery that admittedly wouldn't stop Frost from munching on a BLT very long. It's not about the mystery per se, but about the people. And, as with anything that is what keeps the interest high. The people here are fascinatingly dysfunctional. A disgraced journalist, an abused, damaged girl. A family desperately trying to ignore each other and their Nazi-tainted past. This is a film which deserved more attention and more respect than a poor sequel and a pointless remake. 289. Flight of the Navigator For a family entertainment film, there is something desperately sad about Flight of the Navigator, if you sit back and look at it from a distance. A boy argues with his brother, is abandoned, falls into a hole and is forgotten about for 10 years. He wakes up, and is terrified when his home is no longer his, is taken to a military base, and escapes on a spaceship. OK, that last bit is quite cool, but to that point, you have this bewildered child who has lost his entire family, as well as ten years. The way it is presented is more child-friendly however, and once we get onto the ship itself, and meet Max (that laugh) things are much happier. A great Sunday afternoon, rainy day movie, Flight of the Navigator is another film from a simpler time. Also, it stars a young Sarah Jessica Parker, but don't let that put you off.
