Hi all as this is my first post this may well seem like a dumb topic,but has there been any information released in regards to this years big screen event?

I have no official idea of the current status, but its looking unlikely. So far Empire have remained tight lipped on the subject, but its fair to say that if Big Screen was on this year, advertisement for it would definitely have begun.

New issue of Empire this week though so lets hope there is somnething in there.

The Big Screen website still remains unchanged and shows the dates in September.

I really do hope the Big Screen event happens this year. I was gutted that I missed it last year and have booked the hotel in London especially. Come on Empire. Come up with the goods!!!

Just got the new issue (Bond cover) and nothing in there about Big Screen/Movie Con.

If it does go ahead this year perhaps it will be smaller, maybe back in the NFT like the first 3 years. Theres still a few months to go so lets hope.

Thanks for the replies,i weent last year for the day and was really looking forward to three days of movie madness.Does anyone else find the lack of information insulting.As an empire subscribeha a year I expected a little more than a year old post on the website.

As far as i can remember some people tweeted they reckoned there wasnt going to be one this year.

Someone tweeted Chris Hewitt about it and he said he had no idea, that there was no official word yet.

So we can only hope.

I sent a message to Empire on fb as I'd seen a note on the Big Screen 2011 website which said it would be 14-16 September 2012.
They replied:
"We can't confirm anything just yet, so I'm afraid it's a case of wait and see for the time being -- sorry to be so vague but there are still quite a few things to be ironed out."

It's a shame nothing has been said, with a couple of months to go its not looking good. A statement to confirm the status of Bigscreen would have been nice. I was hoping for it to be on for some James Bond 50th anniversary bits and pieces and Skyfall previews.

I've seen TWO different stories stating that it's been cancelled:

Looks like the O2 and Empire couldn't come to an agreement - more money wanted maybe?

I've emailed Empire to ask them if it is still on - I've had NO reply.

There's nothing on the site either - So it may be that they're still trying to sort it out for another date/location.

I really enjoyed it last year.

It would be nice if they could let us either way - I've provisionally booked the time off work!

THis thread should probably have been locked - all discussion on Movie Con/Big Screen takes place in the existing thread and I understand Empire post a good deal in that thread. Perhaps a name change for the thread to reflect that wider discussion might help newer posters find the right place?

Sad but relieved. the first three years were great, but the O2 venue last year was such a crushing disappointment. not to reflect on the Empire team, but the event tried to go too big too fast and caused many an error along the way and lost the feel of the first few years completely. But obviously they wanted to try to make it as close to our version of comicon as they could - which really is an entirely different sort of event compared to movie-con 1-3.

Maybe a step back is what is needed to go forward again. i would suggest if they are going to go bigger again that they change venue from the O2. Or at the very least make everything that was there last time aheck of a lot better. right from the places we sit in to the advance goodie shopping availible to us!

Movie Con events at the BFI were better you didnt have to keep wandering around you just sat down and was bombarded with films, trailers, interviews.

I just feel its going to be hard to go back to the BFI style event due to the numbers that went to the O2

Big Screen will not be happening in September. We're still hoping to put something on at some stage, but that September date is incorrect.

We have posted as much here on the forums about it a few times, but we haven't given a definitive answer beyond that simply because we're still hoping to do something else. Any other sites listing Big Screen are doing so based on ancient and tentative information, I'm afraid.
