The main character of the ENTIRE TRILOGY is nowhere to be seen! Plus, no Jar-Jar in sight, and a character that's on-screen for less that 10% of the running time is front and centre. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE, LUCAS!

Apart from E.T. and Raiders, IMHO. Preferred the new ones on those. Love the original Casblanca poster especially. Very cool. New Phantom Menace poster looks like fan artwork. Photoshop nonsense and, as loafroster says, where's Anakin?

Guys, both Raiders posters are Richard Amsel, not Drew Struzan...

It was fascinating seeing all those posters, and generally I preferred the original. Whether that was because that was the poster that made me see the film, or because the re-released poster is revisionist (I'm looking at you TPM) or just because the use of Photoshop has become more lazy, I don't know. Maybe Marketing department tastes have changed. The newer posters were often busier, and I'm a 'less is more' person.

Really? Looking at the voting I'm actually quite disgusted by people's lack of appreciation of style and aesthetics, as an artist and graphic designer I shake my head at people thinking the original Star Wars is better than the re-release, yes its iconic.....but pretty naff in comparrison to the newer version, but I agree on one thing the newer Phantom Menace poster is aweful...90% of the films concept art was better than that abomination!

Yargh! Believe it or not, I meant to change that before publishing it, but it's one of those features that requires Amar's magic tech powers to tweak. Will be rectified ASAP!

I'm sorry to say this, but you've broken a poor man's heart by labelling his work as the great Drew Struzan's. The 1982 re-release poster for Raiders was in fact drawn by Richard Amsel, not Struzan. I trust you will flog yourselves to the tune of the Raiders March accordingly. x

I'm not an artist but I know what I like and I don't care that the new Star Wars poster might be technically better I'll plump for the iconic one of this every time although I do prefer the blue tinted one with everyone holding blasters to both. Look at the early Bond posters, I would love to see Skyfall as the 50th film actually go old school and give us a poster like of the classic Bond films but I've no doubt it will be the usual photo shopped effort, although I did like Royale's one with DC at the card table, all The Brozzer ones were pretty rubbish.

Some of those original posters are works of art conceptually as well as execution. That original Close Encounters poster represents deep mystery and tantalising verge of discovery brilliantly...it's an absolute classic, just WOW.

I've been beating myself up about it for a while now.

That was a "type in out without internet, meant to check later" job that I managed to NOT CHANGE LATER.

Totally my fault and I apologise unreservedly.

The Jurassic Park posters both definitely say 65 million years, not 85, as your taglines state.

Other than that, great fun for a feature!

Great fun feature.

As for the missing Darth Vader on the Star Wars re-release poster, he's not missing he's on the Empire poster. Theses posters work together by hanging all three side by side you will see all the main characters are only shown once. Its great i hused to have them on my wall. Give it a try and you will see how great these posters are. Although i do prefer the originals, but thats the same for most of these posters.

Tough pick. Both have inserts (the droids vs. the Emperor) that just look odd and throw off the flow of the design. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why Luke at Hoth was considered a good choice for the original... But, in the end, I couldn't vote against that iconic Han/Leia almost-kiss.

I must not have been paying much attention back in 1997, because "Nothing on earth can come between them" as the tagline for a sinking ship movie is just... Well. To quote a better movie, "The word I'm looking for, I can't use--'cause there's pre-school toys present." Not that anyone here is a pre-school toy, of course...

Phantom menace was a terrible film, but the only thing properly cool about it was whenever darth maul was on screen. Putting Darth Maul in the starring centre role is basically Lucas going nudge nudge, remember him, he was pretty cool.

The re issue posters are immediately on the back foot as they seem too just yell GO SEE THIS NOW!!! and crowd whatever art with explanatory words of what the film is (you'd think that they didn't need to, the only reason to re-release it is because everyone wants to watch it anyway). The ET one comes close though

If you want to promote an action movie, why put a bored puppet in the poster???
If you were going for comic relief, that's Jarjar's job, not Yoda's.

Anyhting he paints, I'm voting for - that includes preferencing over the iconic Star Wars one-sheets. He provides a clarity, a uniformity and a classy finish to anything he puts out. Ask Spielberg, Zemekis, Del Toro, Daramont... In fact, ask any director who actually knows what they're talking about. Nuff said.
