ORIGINAL: Deviation Tbh, I think he has a modicum of a point in his question of what today constitutes as racism (Is, for example, a Serbian hating an Albanian or vice-versa racism or xenophobia, etc). The rest is nothing but disbelief gif worthy. What rest? The homophobia? Is this really news to you? These days almost anything can be deemed racist - and some people make a career out of claiming racism where ever they imagine it and it get's debated on the radio and TV - And then we have so called "islamophobia" that the paranoid Muslims bang on about - and are doing so as we speak on the phone-ins today. I take it you folks will know what I'm talking about here (but I wouldn't bank on it)? Would you be so kind as to give us some examples of people who you think "make a career out of claiming racism"? Obviously, if you're making such statements with such confidence, you obviously have the evidence to back them up. I would address the 'so-called Islamophobia' point, but Nexus already has, albeit far more bluntly than I would. I think that it's safe to say, though, that "what you're talking about here" is something I know only because I've heard other blinkered, horrifically privileged internet commenters make the exact same statements about how they're 'blind to race' and 'it's political correctness gone mad' and 'everyone's racist so why do you care' and 'we can't even define racism'. It's obfuscating what is actually a reasonably clear thing - JessFranco's third post in this thread is a brief and lucid outline of why everyone beats up on the white people you want to protect because 'they're not that bad, it's those pesky Asians!' Here's two pal, - Yasmin Alibatshit-Brown and Al Sharpton.. Aside from the fact that he's a Baptist Minister and a television host, Al Sharpton is a well-respected civil rights activist who has made his mark by campaigning against injustices visited upon the African-American community by government organisations (most of the campaigns he's led have been against cops shooting young black men). He's no doubt had his low points (the Crown Heights riot), but he's still a tireless campaigner for equality and fairness in a country where the African-American community only had their civil rights recognised in law 48 years ago. As for Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, she's a well-respected columnist on more than just race issues, and even then she's not exactly the inflammatory anti-white monster you want to paint her as. Hell, I only have to go to Wikipedia to see this - quote:
In May 2011, Alibhai-Brown wrote in the Independent that Muslims and others should stop focusing solely on the wrongdoings of Israel, saying that, "We Muslims need to accept our burdens too." She also said that, "It is no longer morally justifiable for activists to target only Israel and either ignore or find excuses for corrupt, murderous Arab despots. That kind of selectivity discredits pro-Palestinian campaigners and dishonours the principles of equality and human rights."[18] Brown previously condemned ethnic minority campaigners against racism failing to mention white victims of racially motivated crimes, suggesting they were guilty of double standards. Highlighting cases such as the murder of Ross Parker, Alibhai-Brown wrote: "Our values are worthless unless all victims of these senseless deaths matter equally", adding "to treat some victims as more worthy of condemnation than others is unforgivable and a betrayal of anti-racism itself".[19][20] But even then, why is there a problem with people highlighting civil rights abuses and racism in society? These problems still exist, so why shouldn't people be calling our attention to them when they occur?
