I cant for one moment see D.Craig being typecasted or restricted in his future acting career rether he continues James Bod or not.
He's much more versatile than the previous Bond-ites,minor Pearce "Well maybe you shouldn't be living here!!"Brosnan.

I actually thought he was bizarrely cast in TGWTDT, his accent made no sense. I read that Fincher said he used that accent because his Swedish accent was dire but why not cast someone who do Swedish?

Well it's not really a curse but there's a feeling that the actors get typecast, Craig went as far to phone Spielberg up to ask him would he still hire him if he took the role. Craig's a solid actor but was just wondering if the films he's done since have all underperformed?

Not really - neither were particularly good actors.

And Craig, while a good actor, did not have massively performing films before the role. He generally didn't do that kind of film. Of the bigger stuff like Golden Compass had so many problems it was far from Craig's issue.

Brosnan is actually a rather talented actor in his own right, but yes I agree Craig will not end up type cast. He had a career before BOND, and will have one after BOND. Plus, he has already appeared in some successful films since taking on the role of 007 (something Brosnan did too, by the way - THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR having been a big hit in 1998)

I think the series is generally pretty poor, myself. But I've never seen anyone going overboard trying to defend Reeves as any great shakes as an actor before. SOmething which I think his filmography tends to bear out - although his limitations did mean he was adequate in Noises Off. I seem to recall people were more polite about it after his awful accident though.

Superman 1 & 2 were wonderful films. Even 3 had some moments. Although Reeve will only really be remembered for that part I think people tend to overlook exactly how good he was in it. Much better than the wooden Reeves. And Dean Cain, while appealing, didn't exactly display any great range in Lois & Clark. Just look at the different ways in which Reeve embodied Superman and Clark Kent as two totally seperate people, and the way he drifted between personas was flawless, something I don't think any other actor past or present managed to achieve. When he was playing Clark Kent he also displayed a gift for comedy, and everything about him changed when he wasn't Superman, his voice, his physicality, he was fantastic.

About the topic: Craig is probably the best actor who has played Bond and despite some iffy box office, should be fine for the future.

About Reeves: He always will be Superman. Nice guy and underrated actor, though I haven't seen much of him in other things.

Routh was decent and later work has shown him to be a quality actor. Sadly he was just given nothing to work with in that film and the Clark version was not directed as a bumbling individual but a totally disfunctional one..

Oh dear - I thought Routh was a perfect replacement for Reeve

The only version of Superman I ever enjoyed was actually Lois and Clark which would probably make it Dean Cain for me - not great shakes as an actor, but good in the role and perfectly watchable.

Also, given there are other Craig/Bond threads I don't see an issue with adding other 'curse' discussions if only to justify this thread not being a duplicate.

The only Bond actor who hasn't really had anything else screenwise is probably Lazenby. Moore's post-Bond non-career always seemed to be more of a personal choice - and given his TV career he might well have been the biggest star going into the role so it being his choice seems plausible.

I agree with the above re Craig possibly being the best actor in the role although that's not to diminish Dalton's quality as an actor or even that both Connery and Brosnan have both given excellent performances in certain films. But until Craig has 'been' Bond (ie past tense) it seems a little redundant to write him off. He seems to be following Brosnan's approach in keeping a normal career going in parallel to the role.

I've lost track of what this thread is actually about now but just to throw my own opinion out there. Craig will not be typecast as Bond. To be fair, apart from Moore and Lazenby, who has? Sean Connery may have always been known as Bond but he had a pretty successful career long after his tenure as 007 ended. Dalton likewise has enjoyed a wide range of different roles maybe none as big as Bond but I wouldn't call that being typecast. Brosnan again, is pretty much in the same boat as Dalton in terms of career after Bond. Craig I suspect will be more like Connery. He's making the right choice of continuing to act in other films whilst he is still Bond (Cowboys and Aliens, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc) and I think will continue to star in many films once his time as Bond is over.

As for the Christopher Reeve thing. He is Superman. Its impossible not to compare anyone who plays the role since to his quintessential performance! And whilst his filmography may be limited and he may well have been typecast, this is no judgement on his quality of an actor. You can't pull off Superman with such gravitas and depth as he did without being able to act!

In regards to Dean Cain and Brandon Routh, I have to admit I liked the first two seasons of The New Adventures of Superman. it was one of the show I remember the most growing up and I recently rewatched the whole series. The main thing that still holds up is Dean Cain's performance. I like how he was the first actor to play Clark Kent as the the true persona and hero and Superman as the disguise. Something which the comics adopted. Brandon Routh was as many say, similar to Christopher Reeve in his approach to the role but why is that a bad thing? I still think he was really good in a film that unfortunately didn't give him a lot to do. But if you want to see an indication of how great his Superman would have been given a second chance, watch the scene where he recites Jor-El's speech to his son.

To be fair I think rather than cursing them in any way both Connery and Brosnan benefited from playing Bond. Both did their most interesting work after playing 007, and none of it was in playing a similar character.

I agree with the Routh bit, but disagree about Cavill. I didn't know much about him, but when I watched Immortals (which is a shit film, but still) I thought they'd made a good choice in picking him for the part. He reeks of Superman.
