I've just been to an early screening of The Cabin In The Woods. This was a movie that I jumped at seeing early as internet chatter suggested a viewer devoid of spoilers would get more out it. I didn't fancy a deluge of spoiler heavy tv, radio and newspaper reviews giving away all of it's surprises come April 13th. For the record, I skipped Empire's review, although I noted the rating. Now, having seen the finished article, I'm glad I did. To be fair, Empire does warn those sensitive to spoilers, to not read past the first few paragraphs
Guys, for anyone remotely interested in seeing this, my advice would be to try and catch this on opening weekend, or better still opening day, before your mates have a chance to ruin it for you.
This is THE Friday night movie to beat. Possible SPOILERS to follow in next post.

Anyone familiar with, and a fan of Joss Wheldon's back catalogue will find much to relish here. Most of his previous writing credits are very immersed in fantasy, and the premise stays firmly rooted in that genre(for the most part). The film is ultimately a odd hybrid of Hellraiser, The Truman Show, Lost, and The Evil Dead. It's seemingly odd shifts in tone do jar a little to start, but by the last third, the set pieces are so gloriously over the top and off the chain, it doesn't matter. The final 25 minutes or so, are so insane, you will marvel at ridiculousness of it all (Three words - Lift doors opening...). It feels oddly original given all the various material that it is a mash up of.

I think Empire were a little hard on this, with it's *** review. For first time viewings, I guessing a lot of people will rate this higher due to it's sheer entertainment value, but i going to go with ***1/2.
Definately one to see with your mates on a Friday night. Everyone leaving the screening seemed to have a blast and you will too. Enjoy!
