I'm starting to wonder if I have game (pc) addiction or not. Friends and family have always joked with the idea I spend too much time or am wasting my life away on game, but I never took these comments too seriously.

A typical day will be: come home from work around 6.00pm and instantly load up my PC and I will most likely spend around 2 of the next 5/6 hours playing something or other (current games are Darkspore/Realm of the mad god/ Skyrim).

As for weekend I usually cinema on Friday,  head out to the pub on Saturday and then have a family afternoon on Sunday. Each day also containing around 2-3 hours pc.

Of course once a new game comes out I will spend a lot more time (BF3 release week was days as well as nights gone).

So how much time do you spend on games? Be honest now: I will not judge you. Nobody here does that

Mine's is easy to calculate - 84 hours since Christmas Day 2011. This is due to Skyrim being the only game I've played since I got it but that time would have usually been spread over other games. That averages roughly 6 hours a week which I don't think is a lot. During that week I'll also spend time with my wife and daughter, eat out, play football, go to boxing, watch films and read books. It's all about balance I think so however much you play is fine, as long as you're not skipping work and not washing to play games (unless it's a release day....).

Nah, never skipped work or washing over it.  It just seems to be my go-to bordem fix. It has replaced TV and books.

Never gotten into any mmorpgs, thank god. That would be life over methinks.

Worried?  Here is a simple test that will tell you if you have a gaming problem.
Settle in to play a game.
Look to the left, do you see 2litre bottles of sugary drink?
Now look to the right, do you see  2litre bottles filled with piss?
If you answered yes to both these questions then you have a problem.  Also if you answered yes to Question 2.

Or, even simpler than that, would you describe yourself as "as bad as a Korean"?

I am a recovering game addict and had a particular penchant for real time strategy games. The hours, if not days, I spent on the likes of Company of Heroes, the Anno series, Age of Empires, Supreme Commander and the like were, frankly, terrifying.

I still love games but for the sake of my wife, daughter and my own health I've opted to avoid them altogether, otherwise I know that a ten hour session on Anno 1404 will pass without me noticing or having a break.

Madness.

This is also why I do not post in this sub-forum cos it's just like someone waving a bag of white powder in front of my face.

There are some (mainly open-world RPG) games that just grab me and won't let go (like the aforementioned Skyrim), and in these cases I'm usually thankful for the inclusion of achievements as once I get the full 1000gp, I don't feel too bad about bailing.  In others, I've never been a big fan of multiplayer so I don't really have this to sustain my interest past the completion of the single player campaign.  Sometimes I look at the reports of people spending a full day playing MW3 and despair.  Then I remember the 250 hours + I've put into Skyrim and suddenly it doesn't seem too bad after all

My brothers wifes dad! is retired and put 607 hours into Skyrim on the PC!

Re the original question you dont sound that bad 2 hours a night, alot of people watch soaps and other such pap for more than 2 hours a day, and as long as youre having a good time and not hurting anyone ... crack on!

I play quite a few games, and spend quite a few hours on them, but nothing I would call over the top, or anything close to addiction. If I woke tomorrow and for some inexplicable reason my PS3 was in bits and I could no longer play, I wouldnt be too worried. As mentioned before, it's surely about balance. I go to the footie, swimming, cinema, boozer, bars and clubs, restaurants, work, read books and magazines etc so adding in another activity to pass the time isnt really an issue. If all I did in my spare time was play games I'd be worried. Although, as mentioned in Off Topic, I find it much easier to get drawn in and addicted to shitty little puzzle games and such on my iPhone than it ever was on a PS2/3.

I play a lot, and have been known to have Rock Band sessions that last over 3-4 hours, but I wouldn't say I'm addicted. In my first year at Uni I had no TV to play my 360 on, and managed just fine. I think it's a case of I do it a lot (though not to the expense of studies, socializing etc) but could last without it with no problems.

I normally have a session on Friday nights with my mates (BF3, Gears) and then maybe an hour a night, playing some single players.

I binge on gaming personally. I played about 120 hours of Skyrim over 2-3 weeks then didn't play anything for a couple of months till Mass Effect 3, which I put 40+ hours into over 3-4 days*. I'm playing Arkham City at the mo and whilst I won't be playing it for 10 hour sessions I will probably put about 8-10 hours a week into it until I'm done. Then I'll move back onto films/books/music and fill all my spare time with them instead until the next game that takes my fancy (Borderlands 2).

* I'd booked time off work and the family was at my sister in law's house over the weekend so had carte blanche to play ME3 with no interruptions.

I'm like this. I can go weeks or even months without playing a game but then I'll buy Skyrim or something and almost every minute I'm not asleep or at work I'm playing it. This'll typically last 1-2 weeks, then I'll have burnt myself out and the computer or Xbox sits gathering dust until the next one comes along. Every now and then I'll load up an old Football Manager or Civilisation game and that'll have the same effect.

I've been terrible over the past year or so, an hour or 2 most evenings and then a good 10 hours over the weekend. I've kind of had enough now to be honest and can't even think about playing any single player games but I'll still have a bash at some multiplayer games a few times a week.

Yeah MMO's are life-suckers, I got into Star Wars Galaxies and played it for four years. When my guildies said to me to come to play The Old Republic I declined, I'll miss them, they were a good bunch, but just give me a few console games I could get my teeth into then move on, I didn't want to end up wasting another four years on TOR!

I spend yesterday lunch looking up how to make a mob farm, the 50 x 50 digging part really turned me on.

I know the feeling. Thing is: it's quite difficult to justify minecraft to others...or yourself.

Friend yesterday told me he is giving me a gift trial for this weekend. I don't know if I have the willpower to say no. This could be the beginning of the end.

I'd still be playing wow if I wasn't in Vietnam. Thank God for that. It's fine until you meet another wow player then spend hours talking over old Gruul layer runs, but when I finally got the +spell power sword I was so happy.

When Metal Gear Solid came out, myself and my brother spent nearly two days straight indoors in the dark playing it. The weather outside was ridiculously nice but we wouldn't leave for anything. I was then christened Vampire by some friends.

Tell me about it, train for an hour and I'm blowing out my hoop after 15 minutes. Enjoying it though and feel great afterwards, even though my legs are like jelly and I'm sweating like a whore in church.

Edit: So yeah folks, go boxing instead of playing games! Or something equally on topic.
