MrMonsterCat, which are the best Cat Power and Regina Spektor records, pwease? Is The Greatest a good place to start for CP?

Yeah, The Greatest, and then go with Jukebox and then The Cover Record. You Are Free, Moon Pix and What Would the Community Think are really tight albums, but they're very different from her last two, kinda bluesy albums. There's a particular song on You Are Free that never fails to make me well up like a little girl with grazed knee.

As for Regina, I started with Soviet Kitsch, so go with that. Begin to Hope is also good. Far is pretty decent, also.

Cool cool cool cool. My buffday in a couple of weeks, so I'll get on this as a matter of urgency then.

Soviet Kitsch is my favourite. It's got her best song on it too.

Thanks.

Do you remember when you were a teenager and talking to your friends or maybe a girl/boy and you'd have to either stop talking or mutter really quietly when parents would walk past you on the stairs? Awkward times.

If I had had any friends as a teenager, I would totally be able to relate to this.

Peep Show quote innit.

Ahh, sorry.

I've now racked up 12 plays on Belle & Sebastian's I'm A Cuckoo. It's an insanely catchy and perfect little indie pop song.

I'm going to be buying the fuck out of their back catalogue once I get some disposable income coming in.

Cool, I'm chuffed about that.

If You're Feeling Sinister has incredible songs, though the sound is a bit flat in places (kind of like the first Smiths record, I suppose). Push Barman... is pretty much essential and would be my favourite if it was a real album. Tiger Milk, Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Boy with the Arab Strap are all great, and I really like the latest one as well. DCW - the record with I'm a Cuckoo On - was produced by Trevor Horn and a bit of a departure in being such polished pop, rather than the hushed-but-catchy indie that came before. You didn't actually ask me which ones to get, but I told you anyway.

I've listened the Cat Power song about a dozen times too.

Basically what rick said. I'm a huge B&S fan, so would urge you to investigate further - as rick says, Push Barman...is a fantastic way to start and on a gorgeous day like today you really should be listening to The Life Pursuit.

OK this has all gone well so far, shouldn't be too long before the next... oh, we have to for Fritzlfan to send Qwerty his Ryan Adams comp- I mean, Mixclub list. See you back here this time next year?

By the time he gets around to it, there'll be about 11 new Ryan Adams records.

*removes 2nd and 3rd RA songs from playlist*

I haven't arranged anything with Qwerty yet, but the list is done.

Yeah, my bad...

So what d'you fancy doing? CD or spotify?

Both have their pluses & minuses. CD's are more personal but fit less & then there's postage. Spotify's obviously quicker to distribute but can be a tad limited, whilst the adverts are infuriating & disrupt the flow.

Make a decision for me Mr Fritzl!

P.S. Nice playlists everybody - listening to Belle & Sebastian should be mandatory.

Personally I'd prefer doing it through CDs as the Spotify adverts now are so frequent it's ridiculous. That would be my preference of the two anyway.

Yep that works for me. I'll PM you my address in a jiffy.

One thing though, are you wanting to create jewel cases or go the other way and do a "no thrills" one?

In a way, I kind of like the idea of receiving one without a track listing - as it'll mean I won't be able to make any premeditated judgements after reading the artist & I'll base my opinion purely on the strength of what I hear. Obviously you could then provide me with one when I get a review up.

To be honest though, my main motivation for suggesting that idea is because my printer's broken.

So I have a functioning computer now, so if it's possible I'd quite like to join in the next round of this?

Don't get ahead of yourself, there's every chance your computer will have broken again before Fritzl gets around to sorting his list out

Morning Mr Fritzl,

Just to let you know I was all set to complete your mixclub, but then my laptop died & I had to reformat it - losing a lot of the songs in the process.

I'm in the process of sorting it out again, so hopefully it'll be ready to go in the next week.

Some time soon. Nothing is set in stone just yet.

I'll PM Qwerty and Fritzy to see what the hold-up is. If anyone is interested in participating in the next round, just put your name down in this thread. Those who participated in the last round are more than welcome to join in the second round. I really want to get in as many people as possible.

I'm in. I also move that anyone who doesn't abide by a (pretty generous) deadline be prevented from entering the next round or two. It just kills all the momentum. I mean, I think we all knew this would happen with Fritzl, but I expected better of you Qwerty

I thought Fritzy could prove us wrong and come through in the end. I really did.

Why does he insist on breaking my heart?

Sorry ladies & gents...

I guess with Fritzl's track record, I just got lazy!

The mix is pretty much done (although I've said that before).

It'll be in the post Monday irrespective of my doubts over the playlist (as will mine eh Fritzl? ).

Good stuff! Aside from Joanna Newsom, James Blake & Eels, I haven't heard of any of those artists. I look forward to its arrival.

Speaking of which, have you received mine yet? It should have arrived by now.

I have, yeah, thanks a lot! Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but it's a really interesting tracklist.

Yours is in the post, so it should be you with soon if it's not there already.
