That's the first time in a while I've heard of a surprise movie I'm kicking myself I didn't get tickets for. Did you see it Scruffy?

Yes I did. It was very good.

Great performances from Tom Hardy and Guy Pearce. Even La Beouf was tolerable. Probably the highlight of the fest so far, at least until tomorrow (or later today actually)

That's good. Guess I'll enjoy it even more when I see it again when it comes on general release

So what's the consensus on this year's festival? I didn't bother with anything in the end (2nd year straight); was it a return to form after last year's debacle?

General comments seem to be more towards the former. I'd certainly say the range looked better and Best of the Fest day was a great idea (is it a new one? I can't remember it before but I tend to have to have everything sorted out well in advance because of travel so short notice pick ups are difficult).

Nah, Best of the Fest. is an oldie. I never bothered with it before as I'd seen what I'd wanted to by then. Did consider it this year as I couldn't afford to see a ton of movies, but when it came to it, only one movie in the list piqued my interest, so I decided to leave it.

I'm glad to hear it's getting back on course, however, as it would've been a great shame if last year's infamous event had derailed the whole thing. I'll hopefully attend next year.

Whilst it'd be foolish to say it's thriving again, it's definitely corrected a lot of the blunders of last year in my opinion & Fujiwara deserves credit for giving the festival some coherency & focus again. However, I've still got a massive problem with it being held in the last week of June - but that's another debate altogether.

As for the films? Well I only saw 4 this year so I can't speak for the general quality(ended up skipping Shadow Dancer in favour of Spain V Italy - which I'm regretting a little). From what I did see, Berberian Sound Studio was really impressive & again showcases Peter Strickland as a Brit director with enormous potential, I liked the Imposter even if it relied heavily on its insane story, Brave was pleasingly old-fashioned (but not classic Pixar in my view) whilst Day Of The Flowers was largely rotten aside from the Cuban locale element.

With no football events next summer, I think I'll get one of those delegate passes. Crestfallen to think I ended up seeing something which I'm sure would have been bettered by most of the other output.

What's a delegate pass? I saw something on the site but couldn't see where it explained what they were.

Basically for a fee (around the £100-150 mark) you get access to press screenings, with the rates differing on whether you're a student or a "professional."

I'm guessing with those you take the risk of first come first served though?

But given how much I spend on films in Glasgow it might actually be worth going for that if they have something similar.

Interested to hear that even after all the criticism I saw regarding them, the subs for King of Pigs still seem to be problematic - it's being shown at the New Zealand FF.
