I bought Firefly on DVD after seeing the film 'Serenity' which I loved. I was blown away by Firefly - so funny, quirky and exciting too. An old fashioned western, set in space and distant planets!! So disappointed it was cut. Those american networks are just nuts. Just don't get me started on the Sarah Connor Chronicles ......

@the ageless stranger: i have to agree with you here. Carnivale is one of my fave shows, with great characters, lovely sets and locations and a rich mythology. i I just rewatched the boxed sets a few weeks ago and still wonder what could have come of its intended 6-season arc if it had been allowed to reach fruition. very sad.

Where is FlashForward on the list?! Was meant to be the next best thing after Lost came to an end. Had so many twists and cliffhangers at the end. We will never EVER find out what happens... *Sad face*

I don't remember Carnivale making it to the UK, or I would have heard of it. The other MASSIVE faux pas was, of course, Star Trek. Can you imagine how the executives at NBC were throwing themselves out of their ivory towers when they finally realised they had cancelled a goldmine which was picked up by other networks and film studios....

Carnivale was actually shown on Sky Atlantic recently so it has had it's showing in the UK.

Another to add to the list was Reaper. Loved that series. Great post-pub entertainment.

Ooh - and The Event. I agree it was a slow starter - even I nearly gave up, but the second half of the series was cracking!! And the finale of the series had you poised for all sorts of shenanigans with the transportation of 'their' world to our skies.... I reckon a second series would have pulled in the ratings the networks obsess about!

While I agree that Jericho was a fantastic series that didn't deserve the chop, the cancellation of Deadwood was absolutely right.

Series 1 of the latter was great, but the two subsequent seasons were terrible, and the ending of season 3 was quite simply, one of the worst season finales i have ever had the misfortune to witness.

Dungeons and Dragons - we never found out if those poor kids ever got home. And Samurai Jack - had to get back, back to the past, Sam-oo-rai Jack! One of my favourite tv shows ever and he never got back to the past to defeat the evil Aku.

Loved Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me and Firefly. Good shows cancelled in there prime. What about Reaper? The first season finale set up for a second season that never happened, shame

Murder One only lasted two series (I still refuse to say "seasons" - harrumpf). I also had a soft spot for Eli Stone. And - even though these both had mutliple series, they should never have been axed - ER and The West Wing also were cut short.

NBC actually had something great here. The emergence of Olivia Wild, gangs, brotherhood, streets of Boston. Great dialogue... simply amazing show. Canceled after like 1 season... SHAME!

My so called life and Firefly were great, the rest of 'em, I can see why they were cancelled. Angel hurts (as much as Firefly. Ratings were still decent.)

So, no love for Party Down? Easily my favourite show that was cancelled too soon.

All in all though, I don't like it when tv shows have that many seasons. I think any show, no matter how much I enjoy, will get stale beyond four or five seasons/series. I, for one, am not overly looking forward to any of the new Arrested Development stuff. Yes, it is a shame that it ended when it did but it would be a bigger shame were it to return and just not be as good.

Finally, and the only thing I disagree with in this article, since when is Community Arrested Developments spiritual successor? Even though Arrested Development had a character roster full of selfish idiots they were all likable, I cannot say the same for any Community character, and I once enjoyed so much.

I loved Rome so much. It could have gone on for years and years! The last few episodes were so rushed which is such a shame because they had SO much to work with - Anthony and Cleopatra could have had a whole season to itself. Ah, even thinking about this is making me sad. It might not have been a history text book, but they had such a great cast and such great writers and the whole thing looked fantastic! Still, I read that it was axed to make room for Game of Thrones which is, IMO, the best TV show of all time.
FREAKS AND GEEKS! I didn't watch it when it first came around because I don't think it was picked up by any of the UK channels, but a friend leant me the box set recently, and it is SO good!
Pushing Daisies, that was fun, NEVER understood why that got cancelled.
The Unusuals should have made this list! I can't stand cop shows, but this one was so different: fun but not silly, and interesting.

Community is an amazing show!! I haven't seen Arrested Development (I know, I know) but Community is fantastically written with a perfect cast. How can say you don't like any of the characters is beyond me. Agree to disagree I suppose.

I quite enjoyed Better Off Ted, it didn't really make it over here but it had some very funny moments . . . and Portia De Rossi

Where's Heroes in this list? Granted, the 2nd series was pretty below-average, the 3rd series picked up and the 4th series was intriguing, exciting, and unfinished. It's such a shame that such an original show lost ratings due to the writers' strike, but it was still breaking new ground in setting superheroes in a modern, everyday context.
As for the Black Donnellys, I fully agree with mroz22. It was brilliant! The finale left you wanting for a lot more in terms of further character development, yet still left you satisfied that the series was wrapped up. It should have had a second series, cos it was fantastic, and Olivia Wilde. Did I mention Olivia Wilde?

I was hoping after their little strike was over that Pushing Daisies would come back, but alas not. I enjoyed the series thoroughly, with the quirky little story arcs and delightful characterisation, and, in a not-meaning-to-sound-corny way, Fridays feel a little boring without it.
