Being honest I was expecting very little. I always thought Channing Tatum was a plank and I dont really find Jonah Hill all that funny, I just don't. However 21JS is a fucking joy of a movie. Yes it's a bit all over the place and yes it's probably 20 mins too long but the dialogue is sharp when needed (The whole "Angry Black captain" speech) knowing ("I partied with RDJ before he was sober and more fun") and at time just downright fucking hilarious ("Fuck you Glee!") A decent premise and a good script are only half the battle, the ace in the hole (whoa mixing the shit outta metaphors there) is Tatum. He simply brings his A game. He plays to his strengths whilst subverting them. You think he is a plank? Yep he kinda is. You think he is probably a decent guy? Yep he kinda is. He owns the role. Jonah Hill actually sparks off him in a way I haven't really seen before. There is great chemistry right down to the very last line and the big difference is that it has buckets of heart. The feeling that its being made up as it goes along mirrors the actions of the characters. Not to over analyse it-this movie is simply one thing: Fucking funny. Plus I'm getting me some doves.
