I always hoped the Tories Government would change some of the laws and give people increased rights against trouble makers. This never happened and instead it just privatising everything. However this caught my attention.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17294314

"There are too many women who've been suffering from this and I want to make sure we not only have a separate law criminalising stalking but we have better training in the police, in the probation service, in our courts so we really get to grips with what is a dreadful crime.

Oh thank you David Cameron. So only women can be protected from possibly becoming friends again or dangerous men being locked up before they kill someone. Yet I thought stalking covers a great deal more than that. Many victims of neighbours from hell situation could be considered as stalking like my situation. The stalker is a woman and she is dangerous. But you are right and I am wrong. All stalking is done by men on women. Good thing you are running the country.

Given where the speech was the terminology is understandable but I think you might have misunderstood. I thought the English legislation didn't gender specify and simply outlines the crime irrespective of who commits it? So while meeting female victims on International Woman's Day he tells them women won't need to fear again - it doesn't mean not men. Although by and large I understood that where the end result was murder or serious assault that is normally the gender divide?

I'm not sure where a neighbour from hell would fit in - there are laws in place to deal with various disruptions or disputes in that area. But if what she's doing is stalking then this law is supposed to cover it.

Yeah, women are still the main victims of stalking and stalking resulting in violent acts, and there is nothing in Cameron's statement that denies female culpability when the roles are reversed. If anything, a recognised stalking offence will probably help male victims have their cases taken more seriously than under current harassment laws.

Sadly there isn't enough laws to protect victims from neighbours from hell. Any neighbour dispute is officially classed by the police as a civil dispute and most times will not get involved. There is currently no quick fix.

The best solution is to have a dangerous person act. Something like Sex Offender Registation but for those who are capable of harming others.

I thought neighbour disputes went the ASBO route quite often?

I guess it would come down to whether it was stalking or came under current harrassment. But as Reb says, making stalking more clearly criminal may push the police to recognise that quite often these things become fatal because they've failed to act by not taking it sufficiently seriously.
