Agree wholeheartedly. The iconic "Venom look" comes from his/its encounter with Spidey. It would therefore be pretty difficult to pull off an origin story (as all comicbook adaptations start off) without some reference to Spiderman 3. Plus this whole idea of a semi-evil hero is pretty hard to pull off. Audiences can't or won't relate to a hero who's taken over by some kind of malevolent force i.e. demon but does good deeds. Just look at Spawn or Ghost Rider (or don't). I think studios sometimes look too leftfield when considering comicbook adaptaions. Green Latern should have worked but didn't. Kick-ass was a leftfield comic made mainstream. Why can't anyone produce something decent with the Punisher (dude with guns; no special effects needed)?
