Doom utter fucking shit? How dare you, sir.

Actually, in the case of Crystal Skull, utter fucking shit is a bit harsh. It's just rather flat and uninspired. I suggest we petition Spielberg and Lucas to digitally erase charisma vacuum Snoozy LaPork from Crystal Skull.

Sorry I thought this was a review thread. Didn't realize we were talking about the boxset.

Raiders is the only masterpiece. Crystal Skull sits nicely beside Temple of Doom and Last Crusade as an extremely well made, entertaining action adventure movie.

My post was in response to the yawnsome anti-KOTCS posts. This isn't a review thread.

Its always been the case that you either love Doom or hate it - read the various IJ posts dotted around the forum.

Appreciate you taking the time to respond though.

Personally, I love Doom. I remember my mum hiring out the VHS for me back in the mid-to-late 80s and I wore than damn thing out over the school-holidays, so I have a lot of affection for it, despite its obvious flaws - shrill, annoying heroine, dodgy racial stereotyping, and one can argue that it does go too dark. But to call it shit seems odd, to me anyway. Amazing score, boisterous, funny and thrilling despite the darkness, some incredible set-pieces - the rope-bridge climax is probably my favourite Indy scene of all time - although it's not my favourite actual film of the series. I think Doom is unfairly maligned, for although it's not the best film of the series I think it's the best Indiana Jones film of the series. If that makes sense.

Crystal Skull is okay, it's still enjoyable. My least favourite but I don't hate it as much as some people, and not to the extent of saying "Oh, I can't buy the boxset because Skull is in it, I'll buy them seperately." Well, we don't know if they're coming out seperately, plus that would surely be more expensive - and the boxset might have exclusive features. I'll be getting this.

there seems to be an odd/even number thing with the indy films as with 'star trek'.

no.1 'raiders' and no.3 'last crusade' top class.
no.2 'temple' and no.4 'skull' flawed.

I literally don't want to talk to any one who doesn't think Temple is the best of the series. Not only that - it's my favourite film of all time. How do you like them nazi apples.

There's no nazis in Temple of Doom.

And that's why it's the weakest of the first three films .

No but it does have Mola-Ram who's badder than any Nazi.

The only rule that applies here is the law of diminishing returns. Raiders was perfect, Doom was flawed but nearly all great, and Crusade was great but had bigger flaws because they wanted to rehash Raiders. KOTCS is just all flaw.

since the series is based on the old seriels/b movies its bound to repeat formula but 'crusade' had the winning relationship between jones snr and jnr.

I watched all 4 back to back at the weekend and for me Crusade is the best of the series.

For me its close between doom and raiders for best of the bunch.

Then Crusade and then kingdom. Though I have to watch kingdom again, havent seen it since the cinema where I thought it was decent but a tad bland.

Raiders is a perfect film, Doom & Crusade are both fantastic to me, Skull was a letdown but had it's moments too. Can't wait for this set.

I like the trilogy, but have never felt the need to actully own it. Which is odd.

Have you seen 'Raiding The Lost Ark' by any chance (can download from Vimeo), this is how 'making of's' should be made for me, just a shame it has to be done by a fan rather than the Director of the movie...
