It's my worry, yeah. They both deserve to be there, even if Waltz is the stand-out for me.

No Hobbit either so I really don't care

Looks like my hopes will be with animation again. The Pirates!

Hobbit got make-up, art direction, vis effects.

Dark Knight Rises got nothing, not even vis effects. Get ready for the meltdown.

Has anyone in the last 16 years ever expected Bob De Niro to get another Oscar nom?

Just realised SLP hit all 7 of the major categories and editing. They absolutely loved it. It's got to be second to Lincoln now as the possible winner. Wouldn't bet against Lawrence now either.

Shocked at the exclusion of both Affleck and Bigelow from Director.

Surprised, but in a good way, that Weaver got in Best Support for Silver Linings. I didn't even have her as a wildcard and that gives it noms in all four acting categories, a pretty exclusive club.

Big noms for Beasts which I'm thrilled for.

PT Anderson getting completely shut out. Phoenix making it in.

Very, very interesting.

Aye. compared to ZDT, this makes it an interesting list. I'm hoping for a ceremony full of surprises.

Apart from the highly amusing directors list I think my biggest shock was Cotillard losing out on a nomination.

Short animation - Simpsons isn't even a particularly great Simpsons story let alone a great short. It's also a crib from earlier epis. Bad nom.

Kon-Tiki bored me and I'm wondering if the fact there's an English version of it knocking around helped get it a vote it didn't deserve?

Well it shut out The Intouchables so it's good enough for me

Anyway, so happy that Amour and Beasts got so many nominations. Great to see the Oscars doing this left-field stuff. Hope that the sizable 'old white people aware of their own mortality' demographic can push Amour over the line to get Best Pic.

True. But Sister was better, which is the only one of the other non-nom'd ones from the short list I've seen. But the other two are Cristian Mungiu and Baltasar Kormakur. They have to be better!

So does anyone else think De Niro might actually take the supporting actor category? He's in a film the actors obviously loved. If Lincoln is (seemingly) locked in for picture/director/actor/screenplay, then the love for SLP might go to actress and supporting actor. There's nobody in the category who has never won before, and he hasn't won one in over thirty years. I'm thinking TLJ is the frontrunner, but he could sneak in there.

I was thinking that category over. Waltz won a couple of years ago in a Tarantino film so would seem pretty unlikely to do so again, Hoffman's win not that long ago either, Arkin is in his film considerably less than any of the other nominees as well as winning a few years ago; which leaves Jones in the film looking likely to win Best Actor - so will they throw the love elsewhere in that film? I'm not sure that they will - and De Niro.

And the symmetry of two actors both picking up their third Oscars on the same night (and one of them American, to counter the Brit doing it ), seems too good to resist.

It's the big comeback for De Niro as well. Respected again after years of shit, first nomination in twenty years, let alone win. I think he could do it. Personally, I'm thinking it could go Lincoln/Spielberg/Day Lewis/Lawrence/De Niro/Hathaway/Amour/Lincoln for the big eight

Yeah, shame it couldn't sneak in to make it ten for Best Film, but I guess the fact it was being talked about as a genuine possibility is still pretty high praise.

I wish there was more of a race in Supporting Actress. I haven't even seen Les Mis and I'm bored of Hathaway winning.

Can't really see anyone threatening her, realistically. Maybe Adams because it's her fourth nom and no win yet, or if Weaver picks up enough love from the SLP fans, but eh...pretty weak hopes, I think.

I'd have taken Moonrise Kingdom over it for the final slot, tbh. But then I'm quirky like that.

Support Actress, I think Field is possibly the strongest competition, even though I wasn't thrilled with the performance. I think Adams would have been in with a better shout if the film had been liked by more than the actors branch. Be interesting to see if Phoenix shows up.

The acclaim for all three actors has been pretty much universal, when it comes to awards season though, both Adams and Phoenix missed out at SAG and PSH still got the nom. I think he's the best chance for a win for the film.

I think Pheonix really deserves to win for The Master it is his greatest performance to date and Lawerance should win for Playbook.

Supporting actor is very open actually, but can't see De Niro getting it for some reason, think it is between Waltz and Hoffman, Supporting actress is not so open, but I do really like Hathaway

Think Paranorman deserves to win for Animation, but think it might just lose Frankieweenie.

Nice to see War Witch which I saw at the Brighton FIlm Festival get a nod.

Best Film is a three horse race between Les, Lincoln and Pi, with Lincoln just edging it for me.

Turns out Silver Linings Playbook is the first film since Reds in 1981 to receive a nom in all four acting categories.

Yeah, based on these noms, it's the biggest threat to Lincoln winning. It could be a SPR/SiL year. I can't see anything else threatening Lincoln now we can write off Argo/Zero Dark Thirty/Les Mis.

Meh, not enough Skyfall or Moonrise for my liking.

Am hoping to see Les Mis this weekend, so should be able to pass judgement on it's plethora of noms soon. In fact, I've got a lot to catch up on.
