I joined this thread just to concur with Spaldy. The Prisoner (McGoohan version ONLY!) is one of my all time faves! The last episode is so worth waiting for also.

I need to rewatch it all again soon actually.

I've seen a few episodes but that intro is so damn long that by the time I'm done watching that I need a break

I've checked Lovefilm again, it's still available for streaming so I might start it again tomorrow. I do love McGoohans voice though...

 Got Boardwalk Empire S1 to get through then S2 next week. After that its a Game Of Thrones re-watch just in time for S2 in April. Also got Whistle Down The Wind, Event Horizon and The Mist directors cut.

If you had've watched them with me in the first place, you would've saved yourself a lot of time and wouldn't have had to of downloaded them again.

Does watching so much on DL cause any problems with your ISP usage? I've only DL a couple of things from Itunes, and they seem quite large, even SD. And about 1.5gb for something that was just a rental was even worse, so I've limited it quite a bit.

Some ISPs are truly 'unlimited', like Sky for example, but I can see this might cause problems with others

Technically mine is supposed to be as well, but that doesn't stop them doing it the other way by fannying about with contention ratios (which I thought Sky did as my brother uses them and has found it far from perfect).

I guess this is kind of O/T, but it is specific to being able to DL to view!

Prior to that I had 60GB but I'd occasionally smash through that.

Try getting a different ISP Elab.

When we signed up it was advertised as 'truly unlimited'. Their Anytime+ works by downloading TV programmes and films using the internet connection, so needs to be 'unlimited' for the whole thing to work.

 Streamed this off Lovefilm last week although I was unsure of the quality the download speed seemd decent as it didnt stop mid-way through to buffer or anything.



Watched these two of Netflix and got to say that they are better quality, watched one of the laptop and the other streamed through the PS3. Unfortunately even though their quality is really good, Netflix dont really have a large library something that is bad when it comes to wanting to watch some new releases.

Have just cancelled my Netflix subscription, nothing good on there. I'll be sticking with Lovefilm from now on

 Curzon on demand paid me to check out their service last week, and, paid opinion aside, I've been having a lot of fun with it. We watched Le Havre on there last week, which is the first time I've ever watched a film online the night it went in to cinemas. Had it been available to watch in my local I wouldn't have bothered with VOD, but seeing as we weren't getting it for a week longer I thought it worth the shot.

I'd say there back catalogue needs a bit of work but the new releases are a good way to distinguish themselves from other services - Blackthorn is there this week. And I say that without being paid to advertise it

After the Guardian link-up with Le Havre, the Guardian also said something about offering a few free films from the back catalogue so that might be something to look out for.

Just to be clear, I'm not being paid to advertise CoD in here. I'm not personally sponsored by them or anything! But by the same token, if they wish to offer me an advertising fee to run a "sponsored article" that is clearly promoted as such, and about a subject that I'm actually interested in, then who am I to say no?

I enjoyed the Le Havre guardian tie-in (which I paid for btw), it was a nice little event, and brought something vaguely related to an atmosphere to the world of digital streaming!

I liked the match up chat they went with for it as well - the whole evolutionary group support thing.

But if they can keep up the USP of these new releases I think they'll do fairly well. I read the article about the service the Guardian printed as well and while I can see why some art house cinemas might be worried, the simple fact is that a heck of a lot of people simply don't have easy access to a screen that will show these films.

A friend of mine runs an arthouse cinema, and we were literally just talking about that article and the effects of CoD on places like his just this morning. While I'm approaching the matter from a slightly different angle to him, and can appreciate his concerns about his audience depleting, I threw the "access" argument at him while defending CoD.

Ultimately though, his concerns are my concerns too, at least from a professional perspective. A large percentage of my income comes from the freelance work I do for independent cinemas, so I'm as keen as he is to see them survive! Saying that, I don't genuinely think many people would choose VOD a well-run arthouse cinema if access wasn't an issue, but VOD serves nicely as a counterpart to pick up where the theatrical experience falters.

I hope so too. The benefits of having a cinema like that that you can access - still to be able to enjoy going to the cinema without having to worry about idiots in the audience, the persistent problem of the multiplex - are very clear.
