Anyone see this? Hilarious stuff, and from a movie-nut's point of view it was fun spotting all the smart-arsed film references/spoofs, everything from Chaplin to Get Carter.
Some nice deadpanning from Capaldi as the clueless Yentob-esque presenter too (to the sister of a disgraced former screen siren: 'She seemed to enjoy the company of, frankly, the Nazi high command...'). The scene where he and a film historian wandered around the site of the studio - now a Wickes - was funny as fuck.

From TV review threadish

I enjoyed it. I've read a couple of unimpressed reviews, but I think if you're on board with it being a potted history of the 'high-points' of British cinema it adds an extra dimension to it. Some of the titles were wonderful (ditto on Chutney) and I loved that Gilliam turned up himself, and making fun of the funding system (once Harrison passed it up). I thought it a very affectionate take. The Guardian review just seemed to take it as a spoof doc rather than the spoof on British cinema history, the latter of which it worked beautifully with IMO.

More proof of why it would be a crime to get rid of BBC4.

Loved the tour of the "studio"..
