Quentin Tarantino’s movies are full of homages and historical references, as well as some personal visual trademarks like his now classic “trunk” shot. Enjoy.

Quentin Tarantino = meh.

He might have been something wonderful back in the days of, say, Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction, but for me he's just on repeat the whole time.

Also, I can't take seriously someone who says that the dogfight sequences in the Italian war movie Eagles Over London are cool.

If he had carried on in the mould of his first three films he would be on his way to becoming a great. Instead he now strikes me as a complete nerd, who is shallow and empity, and who only knows how to tell a story in one way.

Kill Bill vol.2 was a big letdown compared to the first film. Tarantino builds up everything with nerve-shredding tension, only to fall at the final fence with another butt-numbing diatribe before what is, quite frankly, a half-assed payoff.

See I would have Jackie Brown up there with Pulp Fiction as a great film, those are his masterpieces for me, with Reservoir Dogs not far off. Don't care for the Kill Bill films, but the real stinker for me is Death Proof, just found that to be very tedious, formalic and sexist

And I still can't make my mind up on Inglorious Basterds.

As much as I love the 'Tino I can admit that since Jackie Brown he hasn't been nearly as good, but Basterds was definitely a big step in the right direction. Here's hoping that Django Unchained at least maintains that level.

I always thought that Kill Bill was meant to be one long film, and that he split them later on, but I may be wrong there...

His best is Pulp Fiction, but Inglorious goes close in my opinion.

And I cannot wait for Django Unchained, going to be AWESOME

Yeah I think Kill Bill was one movie split for profit reasons. I prefer part 2 personally.

Still not seen Inglorious Bastards.

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are stone cold classics that are in most peoples top 50 movies.

Jackie Brown is fantastic movie. It feels like Pulp Fictions older, but slightly less fun, brother. If that makes sense?

Haven't seen Death Proof. Should I???

And the less said about his contribution to Four Rooms (and most others contributions to this little experiment) the better.

Many will say no, but I say yes. Not perfect by any means, and at times it's slightly dialogue-heavy, but it's still got that Tarantino spin and has Kurt Russell driving really fast

As for Inglourious Basterds, you need to get on that now!

I was a huge Tarantino fan, but still admire his work. I consider, Dogs , Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are modern classics. Loved Kill Bill Vol1, and enjoyed Inglorious Basterds.

I strill think he is a talent to be reckoned with but has lost a bit since Kill Bill 1. I found Kill Bill Vol 2 and Death Proof enjoyable but average with some moments of the QT genius in them.

I just think that with his talent he should be delivering a bit more and feel a let down at times. Still looking forward to Django though.

Aye, I like Death Proof aswell infact I LOVE Death Proof. The cars are cool, the driving is awesome and Kurt Russell is great as Stuntman Mike. The characters do talk alot of shit but not so much that the film is ruined by it, not in my opinion anyway.

And yeah, Sutty, you should see Inglourious Basterds ASAP!

How, exactly? All he's really shown, thus far, is that he can string together some smart-arse dialogue with homage after homage, with a soundtrack that seems to be composed of someone else's greatest hits.

Yes, OK, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are good, and Kill Bill was half decent, but really he's never done anything that's made me truly go "wow!" He'll never be in the same league as, say, Spielberg or Scorcese might be. Not even close.

Some of the scenes directed in those films require some talent to direct, like the car chases in death proof, the tavern bit in basterds. His charcaters are normally pretty good and he has the skill to get perfomrances out of actors. Thats why I think he is a talent. I remember sneaking into Dogs underage when it was banned from video and it blew me away. I think that's his best work.

Its the homage and pop culture references stuff that lets him down, It's been done, copied, re done. He hasn't seemed to have matured much and needs to try something completly new and test himself. It would be interesting to see him working from someone else's script. The scene copying, homaging etc does has got borning. which Is why i think he has gone of the boil and felt let down whith his last few films. I wouldn't call him a great, certainly not even close to Spielberg or Scorsese level, but can be a quality, talented director who makes good, mostly enjoyable films. I can't see him changing his ways now thus we will never know he he could have gone up a level.

This is true. Anyone who likes Christoph Waltz (and that should be everyone) has Tarantino to thank. It was Tarantino who introduced him to Western audiences, and it was Tarantino's script that gave Waltz the foundation for brilliance. Noticed that since Basterds he hasn't been quite as breathtaking? That doesn't mean he's not a great actor, it just means with the right script he can be an astonishing actor.

THIS.

Snake-Eyes' Favourite QT-related films are FROM DUSK TILL DAWN and TRUE ROMANCE i.e. the ones he DIDN'T direct.

He has talent. It is just that he, like Lucas, Wright and countless other successful directors needs to be sat down, maybe given a slap or two, and told to cop on. Enough indulgence and lets get back to making genuine great films like PF and JB (Yes- I think its brilliant).

I agree with the orignial poster, any QT is good! It seems like it's become cool to hate Tarantino, kind of a "Hey, I used to like Tarantino but then everyone else did so I don't anymore!" attitude. Sure he doesn't go out of his way to make something different but why should he? He's brilliant at what he does so as long as he keeps making awesome films, I will be watching them.

All Tarantino is at the least very watchable: he has a gift for dialogue that has great rhythm to it and with JB he proved he is not a one trick pony.

I honestly don't know what to expect from Django. Anyone read the script? Is it exploitation, dialogue-heavy or it's own thing?

From what I read (about the first 20 pages) it is very dialogue-heavy, and Dr. Shultz (Waltz, who the part was so obviously written for) seems to steal the show, despite the film's title. He makes a habit of saying "SPAGHETTI WESTERN" several times, so he's probably going for a look and tone similar to TGTBATU mixed with his own unique characters and snappy dialogue. And as you'd expect from Tarantino, he doesn't hold back; the "n" word crops up a lot in both dialogue and scene descriptions, and a horse gets shot within the first few pages. Obviously it's kinda hard to tell how it will shape up having read so little (there are 168 pages), but I don't want to read any more and ruin it for myself

I wouldn't say you were wrong though.

And besides, Sly has done far more movies than QT has directed. It's easier to say all 7 of his films are great, rather than all the dozens of Sly's movies are.

Used to love Tarantino's movies. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were superb. Then after that he has just gone down hill, and his last three films were very poor indeed. I'm just not looking forward to the new one at all. It'll be the usual tedium; loads of 'tributes' to [read 'copies of' because Tarantino has little ideas of his own any more] obscure movies Tarantino likes, about a minute's worth of action [unforgiveable in a Spaghetti Western, but then Tarantino also made a war movie with no war!] and loads and loads of waffling. I expect the music will be various cues by Morricone etc from other and better movies. Tarantino is at the stage in his career where he should be making his masterpieces, not stuck wanking over old movies like a nerdy teenager who has just discovered cinema.
