Go to the oldapps link in Gram's post above - choose the 9.0.1 version and DL and then just double-click to install. It'll just replace the Firefox version you're using, keeping all your bookmarks and tabs intact.

Ok, did that, but I still have the weird post-box showing the bbcodes...

Go to Help > About Firefox.
Does it say 9.0.1 is installed? Or does it still say 10?
If the latter, you may have to do a proper uninstall / reinstall of Firefox after all.
If the former, then.... hmmm....

It says 9.0.1 but it's ok, it's sorted now. I think it just wanted me to restart my laptop...

So Firefox is now prompting me to upgrade to 10.0.2.

Should I take the plunge?

Is that a different one to the one we reversed or is it just recognising we have an old version and prompting us to the newest?

I think it's just prompting us to update to the newest since we rolled back, because I got prompted as soon as I restarted to load up 9.0.1

It's a new one or a least a "fixed" version addressing various problems with 10.0 which is the one I had but as Larry noted it doesn't seem to have resolved the issue so I'll wait a bit longer

Well, my Firefox has now taken it upon itself to automatically update. It did it a few days ago and I rolled it back again, and now it's done it again

Has it changed a setting somewhere? Mine won't do it without asking me (which it currently does about twice a day!)

I just checked and it was set to automatically install updates, which is odd because I certainly never set it to that. I've changed it back, so we'll see what happens. The funny thing is that when it updated, it changed my homepage to some strange search site, and the first time it changed my default search engine too.

Which site? I don't remember it doing that when it updated before I rolled it back it just took all my preferences with it.

Have you checked for malware?

Ya, you've got some malware there, doubtless.
Try following the removal instructions here.

It's ok, I sorted it. I've got a good Malware removal programme at hand since I got some Malware last year that pretended it was an antivirus programme.

Thanks though

I've noticed that I'm now being prompted to upgrade to version 11...anyone know if the problems are fixed in this version?

I'm noticing the version number now seems to have changed to 12 - has anyone tried it? Particularly as I can't get Firefox (the version I currently use) to work on the site at all at the moment and I wonder if that coincided with the new version.

I checked sites back when this first happened and the complaint had clearly been made to Firefox so they knew about it and Empire isn't an isolated instance. Since it worked the iteration before I don't really get why it's so difficult to correct.

Is anyone else using the version 9 having problems with Empire generally at the moment?

Nope. I'm using whatever iteration was the last one to still have the decent postbox, despite it prompting me every time I open the damn programme, and it works fine.

Course, now I've said this, I'll probably start to get problems...

I might reinstall it just in case - it went funny a few days ago as well but that was only for a short period. This hasn't been working since just before I got the Firefox 12 pop-up on my screen. Only Empire though - fine everywhere else.

And the new version...

I don't know if it's just me, but my Firefox window now has an annoying habit of deselecting itself when I open a new tab/load a new page etc as well.

I'm still using Firefox 9.0, but I stupidly let the Flash plugin update to the most recent version, and now when I go on video websites like YouTube, it either takes yonks for vids to load and script errors appear, or else the video doesn't load and I see the Flash plugin error image.

Can someone using Firefox 9 (ideally on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC) let me know what version of Flash you're using (as long as it's still working for you!).

Because... for example... my Top 100 Films This Year thread, would look like the horrible mess below when editing with BBcode tags visible (i.e. in any verison of Firefox above 9 / Opera / some other browsers).

And bear in mind that this is a simplified mock-up. In reality, say you apply a font, then decide on using a different font. In BBcode, you see the start and end tags for both fonts, even though you've abandoned one of them and can no longer see it affecting your text. Same goes for all the other formatting, and sometimes, you don't select the exact same bit of your text when applying formatting (i.e. say you're applying colour, you don't know if you've selected the bold tags as well as the text or not - sometimes you will have, sometimes you won't) so the font may be first, or the bold, or the size, or whatever. And it screws up any column spacing you've applied using a fixed-width fonts (Courier) as it is displayed in a non-fixed width font in edit mode.

Makes updating your list an effing pain, tbh.

It's annoying enough generally - hit a bb code and the post pane jumps to the top eg every time. For anything more than a single line post it's useless.

But as Gram says - for any kind of list it's completely unworkable. You just end up not updating anything.
