I haven't been adding much to the thread because I would like to wait until I have watched them all - but been very impressed with all the choices so far.

I am leaving a certain 3 hour film to the end though....

I hope you enjoy that too

Even if it doesn't get through to the next round I'm still glad a few more people have seen and enjoyed it.

Finally got to see Punishment Park. Very good, but I liked the tribunal scenes more than the desert story. Also, there was one moment in particular that had me laughing due to it reminding me of Monty Python and I'm sure that wasn't the idea
But certainly an interesting film and one that I'd happily watch again. On the lookout for more films by Watkins now.

I love Punishment Park, I like most Watkins actually. Privilege has had a Flipside release. The War Game, Culloden and Edvard Munch are all worth tracking down too.

I've just gone and read Girv's opening review of the film and he mentions that the message of the film might be even stronger today. The DVD case said similar, referring to Guantanamo Bay and other reviews say the same. But such thoughts never even crossed my mind when watching the film. I can see it for sure, but the fact that it may have any relevance to the actual world, then or now, I just don't seem to care about that and it certainly doesn't make it any better for me. It's not just with this, but any kind of sci-fi whether it involves zombies, prawns or Cylons. I'm not sure why that is.

Whisper of the Heart
Such a sweet film, if a little cheesy in parts. The animation is beautiful and having watched the dubbed version (because I watched it with my son) I thought the English voice work was quite good. I can't pick much fault with it to be honest, but it didn't really inspire the same level of love as some of my favourite Ghibli's, which is perhaps a testament to them, rather than a criticism of this.

Just Jesse James to go, which I've seen before, but husband hasn't, so getting that done tonight.

That there Jesse James film with the clunky title
While I still think it's a very good film, I have to agree with what Gimli said elsewhere, that it has gone down in my opinion on second viewing. Perhaps it's just a case of not having the same impact second time around and it feeling just that little overly long and drawn-out. Anyway, still a gorgeous looking film, the aesthetics being something that didn't waive and are probably even better than I remembered.
