I went to the fencing today and I have to say all the workers were fantastic. I've been to plenty of sporting events and airports and they're mostly filled with miserable people. At the Excel today the military personnel doing security checks and all the workers checking tickets were really friendly and welcoming.

It's day 2. Give them time...

The volunteers seem to have been well trained - it's like all that high fiving they were doing as the teams headed into the centre in the opening ceremony I think.

^ that is sad although it is only the one seat. I would like to hear if the others are as lonely. This could just be a rogue seat who doesn't like other seats. This seat could be a cunt for all we know and the other seats hate him. You never know, two sides to every story and all that.....

Yes - but only one out of the featured performers was actually from London but you see it as metropolitan centredness. Isn't that a deliberately skewed perspective? And you think the birthplace of the music creator is even worthy of comment. It just makes you look as if you're looking to make these points.

I said music in my post. You focused on performers. I said it felt like there was a focus on music from London. I suppose I picked up on those bands that were from London because I was expecting there to be a focus on London. Which would've been fair enough. It's the London games.

My comment about most of the music being English was a throw away part of a larger post. You and that other lad made a fuss over it. For whatever reasons.

You felt it worthy to comment on my comment. And I on yours... and on, and on, and on, and Ariston. Are we really picking bones out of the worth of comments on an internet forum filled with a majority of inane nonsense?

You translate my use of English as referring to birthplace. Do you think that being born in England is essential to being English? That Englishness is nothing more than being born in England? I hope not. But, see: posts can be pulled apart in all sorts of ways. Me saying that most of the music was English is not a dig. Not sure how the pair of you decided it was.

This has snowballed into nonsense. Probably best left alone.

I just get riled at being described as Daily-Mail esque for no good reason.

Aaaaaaanyway. When does the proper Olympics start? Track and Field. The rest is just padding.

Good point. Someone should waste some of their life doing that. Could be worse. They could've wasted all that time posting on internet forums. I reckon a few might be getting close to a total of 12733. They'd have to really make an effort though.

Boaby, you inconsiderate, insensitive oaf. Paul racked up a high post count sitting in hospital recovering from cancer.

It was already ironic in the first place. I mean, if there was no interest, why start a thread, or comment in said thread, saying how little interest you have in it?

I don't start threads like, "no interest in the music of 2012", or "no interest in football" because, well, I have no interest in them...

I find it interesting we only really have a thread where we can happily take pot-shots at it without it being off-topic or unfair to people who're really into it.

Why didn't they start a thread? (Genuinely interested - or is there one?)

I've just realised the Keith Chegwin lookalike everyone saw was probably Colin Moynihan - that hair is wildly out of place on that head

I am so deeply unimpressed with the Olympic 'cauldron'.

It's been hidden away all week in the stadium that hasn't been used. It's always such a large symbol of the Olympics standing tall above the stadium. The torch in Beijing was brilliant. Our one is a bit rubbish. It still sits in the stadium hidden away and it doesn't even burn very big because of it. It just sort of looks a bit unimpressive.

As someone mentioned yesterday, what has happened to the Olympic mascots which they were pushing before the games (t-shirts, comics, cartoons etc.) they have played no part at all in the actual Olympics? I gather the weird one eyed things have turned out to be massively unpopular.

I've long hated those two mascots but, as time's gone by, they've really grown on me. Bought a few cheap keyrings with them on the other day.
