Unless sensational new evidence has emerged Cecil (not Cecile) B DeMille was a man... not a woman.

Englebert Nightingale emerges from the shadows - 26/1/2012 11:10:24 AM

I have waited silently in the forum shadows, for more hollywood announcements about Biblical epics and of all the terrible things that could have happened, the Berg is toying with a friggen Mose's script. I told you all this was a trend, and you all said, yeah whatever Englebert. Christianity is where profits are in Hollywood now, I will restate my predicition, we are on the cusp of a cinematic era in Hollywood in which Biblical epics and epics with Judeo-Christian themes prevail. For the record, I don't think this is a good thing for fans of Hollywood cinema.

Quick reply to Englebertnightingale's gloomy post. Actually, if Hollywood wants to go for all things Biblical, I can imagine some potentially cracking movies. Mel Gibson's 1 and 2 Samuel (the rise and fall of King David - battle scenes galore)? Or what about a Paul Verhoeven bloodbath based on Judges 19 - a story that starts with gang rape and dismemberment and builds from there to a phenomenally bloody massacre? Or how about an esoteric Terrence Malick take on the gospel of John?

As long as when Mosses parts the Red Sea, we just get a faint glimpse of a big shark in the water, I'd go and see it.

Provided there's a disclaimer at the start reminding the audience that "this is a fantasy and didn't really happen" then I'm ok with it. And presumably Spielberg will shoe in the Ark of the Covenant near the end?

Really? Really?

Surely a scene when a man parts the Red Sea with his walking stick will be enough....

Problem is far too many people think the story of Moses is real, which is why I think Biblical epics belong in the 50's.

Well, that's faith for you... but I really don't think it needs a disclaimer.

Just because a story is fictional doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
