 L'arte dei Rumori, the art of noises.

Bring on the strange in my quest to find new (and old) music that astounds, amuses, confuses, leaves you indifferent or even provokes distaste. From the weird to the damn catchy. Anything from the very early experimental electronic pioneers, prog, jazz,disco and well just anything that bugs you out! I'm wanting to be inspired and have something new to listen to, so just wop it out and see what happens...

My current play to start, is a strange curio from Tony Burrello, 1953. It is the new sound.

Never heard of this before and researched it straight away and i'm going to get my hands on this gem! i can see why it's an influence on those scamps from Boards of Canada. An excellent first post and i'll be passing this on to a good friend of mine who'll be very interested

 Irdial is a great label in general for this sort of thing - the best thing is that they've made their entire discography free to download legally (http://www.archive.org/details/irdial). Conet is the standout by far but Stephen McGreevy's Electric Enigma is a wonderful piece of work as well. Great for listening to at 3am when tinnitus is keeping me awake.

 Yes Olaf, i had a breif scobe of thier site and it seems very interesting and i'm enjoying some of the tracks i've played so far ( the cleaners in the bar had a weird moment when they started at 9:30am whilst i was playing 'the lincolnshire Poacher' full blast, as in "what the fucks this!?!")


The first artist i want to bring up is the powerhouse Ruth White, recently rediscovered in my music collection this week. She was of the thinking that previous electronic music was "Chaotic & senseless" (which i have no problem with!) and focused her classical training in this electronic medium to create some interesting pieces for performances and children's educational works (which is similar to one of my Favourite artists Bruce Haack, and i will like to look into the connection between early electronic music and children's development )

I'll be definitely try to check out her full works, especially with animation and children's records. For anyone wanting to know a bit more visit....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_White_(composer)

The only albums i have heard are 'Seven Trumps From The Tarot Card And Pinions' and the record produced straight after (and reminds me of what little i have heard of Lydia Lunch) is

 This time, the mighty Bruce Haack



I just love finding more of his music and his influence on other recording artists. The first time i heard a song by him got me going, and just like Ruth white, reading up on them was very interesting and inspiring me to collect more. Bruce Haack was one of those truly gifted individuals who could turn his hand and mind to anything,. Again, like Ruth White, he did records for and inspired by children too, which adds to his fun sounds and compositions on a lot of his recorded material.

 I didn't see the last post until just now, love it (the vocals remind me of David Lynch's album for some reason). Will have to track down some more of his stuff.

 Haacks the man and an interesting scamp. Thanks for the tip off on the badger machine ( more of that sort of stuff please!) been out of the way of listening to music, especially the electronic sort as of late, hence no recent posts. I should go and hunt some noise and come back here soon

PS. the 'Lincolnshire poacher' is a daily starting work staple at the moment. gets me in the mood!

 A new band i've just stumbled upon. Described as 'post industrial Americana'

The RPM Orchestra. Well i'm only one (very long) track in and its a trip of clicks, dusty whirls, apathetic voices behind closed doors, smoky empty neon lit side walk drones and broken wooden instruments, all slowly gargling towards their demise.

 It's been a while so here's another fantastic electronic artist with a bit of craic, the mighty French master of 'wonk-tronica' Roger Roger (aka Cecil Leuter, Archie Gun or Eric Swan)



Like most early pioneers he has a great discography ( including his aliases) which i am still enjoying discovering. Again he was from a strong classical training background, moving towards creating innovative work in film, television and radio throughout his life. He also worked with childhood friend and fellow electronic-urchin, the fantastic Nino Nardini. He was one of the first, along side two fantastic artists i will cover later, Pierre Henry and Jean-Jacques Perrey to experiment with the Moog synth.

So far, like Bruce Haack, he has that sense of fun and childish wonky-mischief that makes him a joy listening to.

 A wee bump as it's been a while! Due to listening to the fantastic Okko Bekker album 'Sitar & Electronics' (CLICK)



( Here's a wee taste (CLICK) )

I found this cheeky German Asmus Tietchens (now i get two conflicting stories here. 1. He's really Okko Bekker 2. Okko was his producer!! so further research is needed for the truth )



Either way i'm excited about having a good rummage into the discography of this avant-garde music composer (CLICK)

The only album i've listened to so far is Spät-Europa (1982)



It's full of synth soaked, scratchy, almost hollow, spasm filled pieces. They have that same feeling of fun amd play that you'd get off the early French and Italian electronic library musicians (like Roger Roger)but it does contain a more industrial, spacial and bleak edge weaved throughout. What he lacks in good ol' "wonk" he makes up in electronic atmosphere. At times i felt that he may of recorded the album whilst hunched naked in a huge concrete tube, left in a half built carpark. So one album in and i'm looking forward to hearing more and i'd advise anyone to give it a go (Song Link)

 Aye 'there's a new sound' was a pure accidental find one late night on you tube.
I'm glad you like old man Haack, he's a wee legend and as for the RPM Orchestra i just tried the RPM orchestra link. i could still play it even though i'm not signed in so i'm not too sure what the problem is. I couldn't find my original track post on youtube but here's one that sounds like someones trouser pocket has called you (CLICK)

Also on a 'Guitar Wolf' related note from the '...listening..' thread, i found these guys HIGH RISE. Great J-Freaks from the early 80's who's sonic 'psychedelic speed freak' assault (CLICK) make Guitar Wolf sound like Ugly Kid Joe I've only had the chance to listen to a few songs last night but i'll be checking out the J-lable PSR (CLICK)

Now that is a blast from the past. I've got an album somewhere. Must be 10 yerars since i've heard them! i used to have them on mini disc (remember them?) with some Fantomas-Melvins on too (might get some of that again as i no longer have a mini disc player, go figure )

Now talking of albums not listened to in 10 years, can't seem to find my cd by Aussie gabba-metal band The Berzerker (CLICK)

Love them just for the craic and they were a staple of my mix tapes for friends as i used to slap them in as a hidden, surprise head fuck, track. The best story of which is a friend whilst driving to the funk compilation tape i made him. He had it on full blast and in his words was "grooving along pretty happy" until The Berzerker jumped out totally unexpected causing him to loose concentration in panic and very nearly crashing into the car in front! i hadn't laughed so hard in ages. Tears and everything

I know i have four albums somewhere but the only two i remember having are these bad boys....



And in the spirit of the thread for anyone wishing to feel that their head is being crushed, expanded and beaten all at the same time, give Venetian Snares a go. It's future machine gun fast and hyper glitchy-twicthy, with some bombed out mutant genre-mix up 'n' bass thrown in for good measure.

 Amazing compilation. What do you think of the second one? I actually think it's better than the first one, lots of British/European/South American/etc psych pop goodness.

Actually, even though I love both compilations, my knowledge of that fun period of psychedelia just before it became prog is desperately minimal. Any recommendations for that mid/late 60s strain of fuzzy guitars/psychedelic interludes would be much appreciated. In terms of stuff I'm looking for, this is one of the best albums ever basically:

Any suggestions on 60's fuzz-beasts? nowt spring to mind just yet apart from anything by The 13th Floor Elevators, and this, one of my fave songs i found on a awesome comp i picked up for £3 !! The band is called The Id and the track is Boil the Kettle Mother ( i have a feeling i managed to acquire a handful of more songs by them but i'll have to check) and the comp is called Mind Blowers. Have you've ever sniffed around the Turkish and Middle eastern way of arid fuzz? One guy i like is fantastic Erkin Koray (click) He's got tonnes of stuff if you want to spend the time rummaging through. You'll find some great music from that part of the world



You'll probably know this great wee album (the first one that got me hip to the fantastic 'Finders Keepers' records. And they've a couple of great artists and comps from the Middle East) by Turkish man-beast Mustafa Ozkent (click)



Here's a few decent Compilations i have that i heartily advise you to have a good chew on....







On that note there's an interesting label you may like. I have a few things off them and you'll find some fantastical whacked-out psychelicious gems. The mighty ARF! ARF! Records (click)

Here's something for when you're baked that i found a few years ago. I was dumb struck when i found it and just cannot tell if it was a joke, it's just so dead pan and the music just adds to the lunacy Anyway i reckon it would be a good back drop with the sound off whilst you play some Beggars Farm or even Guitar Wolf. Actually, It just soaks it up and will weirdly resonate any music you'll play (click if you dare)

PS. you might like this if you've haven't heard it. I only have two albums by them so far but they have their own 'thang' going on. Dirty, industrial, experimental and acidic Chrome (1979)

 In regards to Olaf i was having a think and i remembered this awesome album i have by psychedelic Kraut-Rockers Brainticket. Unfortunately the only album i have is this called Cottonwoodhill and then a few songs peppered around my music folder!. If they sound like your thing i'd recommend them as a great listen. They're groovy, metronomic and heavy in places. For more info (click)

 I didn't see your last post until now hubu, cheers for the link (it's upsetting my brain in a very good way). I've been on a big kosmische binge the last 18 months or so, so I'm always on the lookout for more stuff really.

 Aye, i'm not a massive head but i always enjoy what i hear. So maybe i should dig in and just listen to nothing but Krautrock and the such for a while. Hope you like some of the recs anyway Olaf

 Hmm, I think too much of my collection is healthy and well-adjusted to support an interesting thread. And I like this one too much though I might do a theme/genre one once I get all my work out of the way and if I can decide on what theme/genre. That or just spam this thread with reviews.
