I'd prefer he kept his passion in the bedroom where it belongs.

Perhaps Sauchieboy can offer an opinion of the reshoots?

Goodness this stuff has even managed to ruin the IMDb forum on Dredd...which is a heck of a feat really.

Joe, please answer me this..

If the LA Times was wrong when it claimed the footage was awful and Travis was fired...

Why has Wagner let the cat out of the bag and said the film needed reshoots?

It's called a news cycle, pssst…it may not be the truth.

I wonder how many people will be killed in the movie? I am going to go with 82.

The death count is very high! And a lot of Peach Trees are murdered too.

Does Dredd tell his fellow Judges off all the time? Boy, he must be a pain to work with. There you are shooting at a gang of drug pushers and he is all "Growl shine your shoes growl" and you are like "Oh goddammit..."

Why should fans expect Dredd 2012 to be that good? I don't mean that in a provocative way but consider this...

Rebellion bought 2000AD in 2000AD and they made Dredd vs Death in 2003. It got bad reviews:

IGN review
quote:

Fans of the fiction will finally appreciate a style that keeps the faith, but will wonder how this game could have done its source material the same sort of disservice the decade old movie did.

5 out of 10

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/597/597919p2.html

Lots more bad reviews if you want to Google them.

I thought the game was okay, not the great JD game fans were expecting blah blah blah. I think we may be seeing history repeating itself because Garland's screenplay does read like a video game - the various levels of the block are like levels in a game, the perps are the equivalent of the game's vampires.

I've got a feeling Dredd 2012 is going to the the film version of Dredd vs Death. It will capture the basics of Dredd's world but it will be a shallow representation, not detailed enough and bland.

quote:

You can also expect to be badgered by a lot of vampires and zombies. Though there are some token human lawbreakers to execute here and there, for the most part, the game's 11 short levels pit you against swarms of the undead. Even for a game released in 2003, Dredd vs. Death's single-player campaign is a pretty bare-bones affair. There's virtually no variety in the gameplay from level to level, the combat isn't very intense, and the enemies aren't interesting or clever enough to support an entire game. You'll occasionally have to escort a civilian somewhere, but for the most part, the game comprises straightforward and not particularly well-executed combat. The four boss battles are especially tepid

http://uk.gamespot.com/judge-dredd-dredd-vs-death/reviews/judge-dredd-dredd-versus-death-review-6120638/

I think there is a real possibility Garland has done the same thing. Had Rebellion persuaded DNA to go with The Mega-Rackets or The Graveyard Shift or some variation on The Hunters Club I think Garland would have avoided any (potential) blandness.

I'm gonna see Dredd when it comes out. It's just a film, and it's qualities or lack thereof are no longer relevant to whatever motivations drive some of the comments/commentators, and it hasn't been, since soon after this thread was started as an attempt to get away from the derailing of the PREVIOUS thread. Fuck this thread, and every pound of bullshit it contains.

It's just a film, and barbed comments now and then are supposed to be part of the fun of doing stuff like this online. But fuck it. . Dredd's just one film among many I have an interest in, and the stink in here is starting to be the equivalent an going to a buffet do and finding among the otherwise tempting morsels, a turd covered in flies, spoiling the whole event.

I am not the law, and neither are you. None of this shit matters. The door wont hit my ass as I leave. The door knows what's good for it.

Hmmmm

When I read this thread I need to go have an hour long scalding hot shower to get the stench off.

Problem is, due to the severe lack of available info on the film, there isn't much to discuss in here, which is really a pain as we end up with 'John Wagner this, John Wagner that, blah blah blah' rinse and repeat. Does anyone have any genuine info to offer on the film? Is there anything to discuss about it? Does anyone really care? I feel obliged to pop in every now and then simply cos it's at the top of Future FIlms refusing to die.

Here's a question, given that I know fuck all about the comics and my knowldege of Dredd is pretty much from the Stallone movie (which I kinda enjoy on some levels) and Dredd as a pop culture icon of sorts; Judge Anderson is referred to as some kind of psi judge, wasnt Anderson played by Diane Lane in the Stallone flick? I dont remember her being referred to as a psi judge, which I assume suggests some kind of pyscic skills as per Dreddheads description of that scene (Will his poor delicate mind ever recover from the suggestion of oral sex? We can only hope).

Lane played Hershey - Anderson wasn't in the Stallone film. Highly competent younger judge who moved through the ranks past Dredd.

Well that explains that I suppose. Was Hershey a character from the comics? Cos she, as far as I recall, had nothing special about her.

As far as the new film goes, wish they wern't taking this gritty realism approach, as I said before, one thing Stallone's Dredd had going for it was the depiction of MC1, it had the grimy shit holes alongside the grand scale, more affluent areas and I thought it looked pretty great. I thought the costumes looked pretty good adn overall it 'looked' like a decent represention of the comic, or at least my perception of the comic from what I've seen. All still froms the new movie look grim, no colour. Again, budget restraints most likely the cause. I think Judge Dredd 1995 benefitted from being very 'comic book', kinda like Dick Tracy...just embracing the look of the strip and trying it's best to recreate whats there, rather than to adapt it to a more real world look.

Do we have a Rob Schneider comic relief character in this film?

We definitely need more of that.

Except for being an exceptionally competent and loyal Judge, at one point Chief Judge, and one of the remarkably few that Dredd respected?  Hershey was a major character in the comics in her own right.

Like I say, I know fuck all of the comics really, but it would appear that the character to fucked over in Judge Dredd cos I dont remember Diane Lane being at all like that. In fact all I remember is her doign something with a photo and having a bit of fisticuffs with some scientist woman.

I don't really think any of the characters were particularly well-served in the film - and they clearly just saw Hershey as a bit of female totty to add on the side.

I disliked Stallone's plasticy sparkling ornaments and cat suit, he looked like someone who'd never spent a day on the streets of Mega-City-One: the toughest city on earth, completely out of kilter with the city depicted. Despite the visual verisimilitude I don't think it was a good representation of what a Judge uniform should look like texturally and in the spirit/function of Ezquerra's original.
As to the city itself, well, we never really got to see it or 'experience' it. The affluent areas you mentioned were only seen in one fly-over and they only seemed have one street-set which the actors ran up and down for the whole and was shot from different angles but still looked the same.

As far as I know, in the new film, there are references to other sectors in the city that aren't 'grimy'. This Dredd is set in one part of the city that is rundown but that really isn't a problem since it's part of the point of the story. As John Wagner said the '95 film tried to do too much and ended up doing very little. At least we will see what it's like for a Judge in MC-1, something the '95 film didn't even bother with. I'm sure there'll be enough 'colour' on-show when we get a chance to see it.
