ORIGINAL: MonsterCat Going by the consumer advice it seems like it'll be pretty much no holds barred in terms of violence. As someone who hasn't read a Dredd comic in a dog's age, I'm curious if this is something that the hardcore fans were hoping for? Or does it seem like a case of the director swamping a comic book film with needlessly gory violence, like what Zack Snyder did with Watchmen. This was my worry but the fact that John Wagner seems to like it is a pretty big seal of approval. He's not the kind of guy who minces his words and was more than vocal about the Stallone film when that came out. Garland not only changed a few things in the film after Wagner saw the first cut but apparently he also let him 'fix' the dialogue for Dredd throughout the film. Personally, I prefer the satirical/topical side of Judge Dredd like in the post-America years of the comic (right up to today) as opposed to the more 80s/90s style ultraviolence. I also quite like the explanation Garland gives for the slo-mo drug and that it actually has a narrative and thematic justificaiton for its inclusion (as opposed to Snyder's Watchmen). I'm pretty excited about seeing a Judge Dredd film, if I'm honest. If they get it right, it'll be pretty damn cool to see a real-life 2000AD character up on the big screen. And if it gets more comic fans reading the cynical, dry-humoured and subversive 2000AD over its lame US counterparts, that'd be good too
