Alex Garland - screenwriter of Dredd (and 28 Days Later, The Beach, Sunshine and more) - has appeared on the 2000AD message board and answered fans questions. Some very interesting tidbits in there! http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,36741.0.html Here's my two favourite bits: quote:
The thematic importance of slo mo is essentially about violence, and the strange fascist wish fulfilment in Dredd. So: the disconnect between what you see and what is happening. quote:
On my first meeting with John [Wagner, co-creator/writer of Judge Dredd], we arranged that he would pick me and Andrew up at the train station. I emailed to ask how I would recognise him, and he wrote back saying: I look like a bent cop. He's right. He does. But it really made me laugh, and stopped me from feeling nervous. The whole thing is worth a read and includes a lot of Garland's ideas about any possible sequels. I love the idea of having Chopper in there; skysurfing on the big screen Apparently Garland has added in a lot of easter eggs into the film, featuring the names of people on 2000AD's forum (including some who post on Empire too)!
