What about those bikes? I thought the leaked picture looked as awful as everyone else did; but they look great in action (2m 08s) and those tyres look reassuringly fat (0m 50s). I'm sure the prop is a piece of cheap shit in real life- but on screen, it does the job.

I must admit I had serious misgivings about them as well but thankfully they look really well on screen in motion.

Another thing that impressed me was the scale of the depiction of MC1, even in that short trailer. Stallone's version of the architecture gets a lot of love, but that film's skyline never looked as vast as the trailer shot of dozens of mega blocks in what looks like an ocean of medium-sized buildings disappearing into the horizon.

On the ground, Stallone City One's purpose-built street sets felt claustrophobic and more than a little bit derivative of Bladerunner; whereas that shot of the bikes speeding along under those huge flyovers feels open, expansive and totally real.

I'd geared myself up to expect a minimalist interpretation of the source material, so I'm greatly impressed by what- and how much- DNA have done with their limited resources.

Looked pretty cool to me.The bikes look fine in action and more practical than those oversized scooters in the Stallone film.Urban sounded like Snake Plissken but thats not a bad thing considering Kurt was channeling Clint Eastwood in that role who would have been the ideal screen Dredd 30 years ago.

Has the film actually been retitled '' Dredd 3D '' though? That sounds awful and makes it sound like a threequel!

I guess " I am the law" is a popular line from the comics? I groaned when he said that.

Actually I don't think he's ever said it in the comic. It was definitely something that they put on 2000AD covers the posters and the like, but the character has never said it to my knowledge (maybe in a Mark Millar strip but then that would happen...)

I think Garth Ennis allowed himself a little squeeze of his fan-prostate by putting that line in one of his stories. I can't think of an instance where Dredd creator John Wagner's used it lately, though.

Too cheesey.

I must be one of the few that thinks this looks underwhelming.

I think Lena Headley looks like a poor villian and I hate the 'slo-mo' drug idea, but I cant put my finger on why. A lot of people suggesting it 'looks' very stylish, but I'm just not seeing it, it looks (in particular scenes within the block) rather flat and drab and I dunno, almost like a TV show version of Dredd. The chase scene looks a little better, but is edited too fast to really get a sense of how it will play out. Everything kinda looks too, I dunno, normal? I kinda wanted a bit more sci-fi. Parts of the city scapes (presumably the lower level slums) looks like a shanty town, reminded me of District 9. The towering blocks didnt have any kind of design element that really clicked with me.... its all a little... square, straight, flat, drab. Away from the overall look of the world, Urban sounds really forced and the dialogue from Dredd himself is pretty boring. So underwhelmed by this.

Ok I'm reading on some of the other forums that this trailer contains a massive spoiler at the end when Dredd throws the baddie out the window. Anybody else get a better look to confirm if this is the case?

EDIT: And lol just spotted Dreddhead123 on another board.

I heard that so I watched it in 1080p and tried to pause at that moment, I couldn't tell either way. If it is it's a pretty fcking dumb thing to do.

Would love to read Dreddheads thoughts on the trailer, where's he lurking ?

He's a fanboy, just like me. All that pish about the uniform, the slummy city, and- to an extent- the 'unimaginative' screenplay have been blown away by the complete fangasm of seeing someone who looks like Judge Dredd doing the job of a Judge in a city that looks like Megacity One.

He's now tirelessly trawling all the many forums I've visited in the last few days, hitting negative posters with EXACTLY the same arguments that you lot spent months throwing in his direction. Brings a tear to my eye. (sniff)

New posters means interest in the film and the trailer doing its job. They might all be wankers, but the film needs to sell tickets to wankers too- the planet's population being comprised almost entirely of wankers.

I think Urban looks sounds and acts spot on as Dredd, we haven't seen enough of Thirlby's Anderson yet to pass judgement (no pun intended).

I don't have an issue with the uniform as Dredd's original uniform was a black biker outfit apart from his helmet which is the later style one and looks right. The major issue I have is with Mega City One. It looks too flat. Now this could be because the film is meant to be a the early days of Dredd's career which would make sense with the uniform.

However I'm more exited by this film after the trailer. It feels like Mega City One. I hope we get to see things like the Resyck, fatties with their belly wheels and other sites of the Mega City, that the Stallone version ignored.

The dumbest thing is Judge Anderson being there at all, she was introduced as a PSI Judge not a Dredd sidekick ....

Perfectly normal for a rookie to be assigned to a full Judge for assessment.

I AM...THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing in this trailor I saw which annoys the hell out of me is at some point Dredd's rookie partner tools up and says 'Let's finish this'. That is such a terrible hollywood staple piece of dialogue and it is shit. Hopefully the movie will overcome this lameness and rock. But it will never beat Sly Stallone's effort.
