Anyone else catch the first episode on e4?

It felt like such a missed opportunity. They had a girl move into the new apartment, it would have been more interesting (and funny) to focus on the awkwardness of moving, trying to get along with your new flatmates, first encounters etc and then that final scene in the restaurant to make them realise they're a good fit. I mean, that's what I thought they were going for by the rushed decision to let her move in. Alas, no.

Characters also seem a bit too over the top - which I hope will sort itself out in later episodes.

And Zooey Deschesssoooo is no Tina Fey (yet).

Agreed. And I'm getting sick to the back teeth of her singing in everything she appears in. Alright love, you've got a decent enough singing voice but give it a fucking rest once in a while.

As for the programme, it was ok-ish. Not many laughs though.

I like Zooey Deschanel when she is acting in things, but this just seemed to me like Zooey Deschanel playing an amped up version of herself.

It's too self aware to be funny, like she sat around with her friends one night and someone went 'OMG Zooey you are like sooo funny, you should have a TV show about yourself'.

Also anyone that encourages the use of the word 'adorkable' should be shot on sight.

I echo those sentiments. Problem with the Douchebag jar is that they could all easily fill it up with most of what they say.

I also agree with Sumintelligentguy about them missing an opportunity on the awkwardness of moving in, and that the characters ARE well over the top. Its obvious they wanted to get it onto a weekly episodic routine quickly, so it felt rushed as a result.

Saying that though, it wasn't as bad as I expected, so I'll tune in and see how it settles down the characters. I need to at least like some of the characters soon, but, at the moment, I find them all to be annoying dicks - particularly the one who gets his Abs out. "Coach" is the best of the bunch so far.

Keep with it. It improves by the episode (Episode 3 being a high-point) and he's become probably the highlight of the show.

He gets scrapped in the second episode because Happy Endings got renewed for a second season.

It started quite well I thought. The Dirty Dancing stuff was funny, and whatever your view on Deschanel she does do comedy well and there is something quite charming about her. However it soon took a nose dive, the three guys were very annoying, and really streio typical and thinning drawn out characters. It just didn't do much different in entertaining for me.

I will stick with it a bit longer though, hopefully there is a funny comedy trying to break out here.

 Missed the pilot but caught episode two. It was alright, it has potential but at the moment its not quite there. Agree that Zooey's character is a little one note, basically its a hyped up version of the public image she projects (kooky but oh so adorable). The third ep looks like a winner although a little concerned that the writers are already a "Wedding" episode, hopefully they can subvert the obvious gags just enough to get through.

 I liked the show it may not be that funny but its nice to watch something light for a change, plus I like Zooey.

I think it's good so far. Channel 4 must have faith in it because it's on the main station, not E4. It's very Friends like.

I used to really like Deschanel but her character in this is very much like I would imagine people who dont like her see her. Less kooky and quirky more irritating. Very irritating when she broke the TV and wouldnt go and pick up the other one up. And the three guys must be the three most understanding dudes in history especially the guy who just moved in. Jess is relatively new to the house and she has done nothing but cry, be irritating and generally act like she needs looked after 24/7 almost yet they are all her best buds? If it was in real life you would be going to each other, 'who let her move in?!' Though I think they did have a moment of that in the first episode during the dirty dancing marathon but its not like she has got any easier to live with since then.

Shame Wayons Jr had to leave the show though on the plus side I like Happy Endings. New guy hasnt really made an impression yet...after 1 episode. Maybe I am being a bit impatient. With Deschanel as well, but they are seriously ramping up the kookiness to unbearable levels, they need to show there is more to her character than that. And stop singing all the time. I keep expecting to turn round and see her wearing a She & Him tshirt with the album release date on the back.

On the plus side I like everyone else in the cast and there are some amusing moments. Maybe they should just focus on them and drop deschanel from the show which would be a radical change of pace, a tv show dropping its star and big name. But one I think would be worth pursuing. Then they could move in Zooeys hot model friend into the apartment and the wacky 1 gal, 3 guys misadventures could continue.

 It isn't the greatest of shows, and if you have no time for Zooey Deschanel than you;re going to struggle, it doesnt appear to have an original bone in its body, but ya know what, sometimes light fluff like this is a welcome diversion. I'll catch it every now and then, but I doubt I'll go out of my way to catch each episode. Two things, firstly, the writers obviously think the name Schmidt is hilarious, they're milking that for all its worth. Secondly, Schmidt has given me the biggest laugh of the show so far in the second episode with his thumb ring bitch slap..made me chuckle that.

Unless the writers do something drastic FAST, that appears to have been signposted from episode 1!

It's OK fluff to sit in front of for 20mins and i'm rather liking Nick... I'd go for him... i also wonder if the sex maniac from the wedding will end up with the sleazy one!?

I'm quite surprised it's gonna manage to stretch across a full 24 episode season... for the love of God, lets hope Zooey holds back on the singing and maybe just hums!!

 This is really growing on me but I do admit that Zooey is definitely the worst thing in it. She has her moments though, so as long as she tones it down as the series progresses it shouldn't be a problem. I remember not really liking Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory at first, but now he's by far the best thing in it and one of the greatest sitcom characters of all time.

Strangely enough I thought that was going to be cringe worthy but when they got into doing it in slow motion I thought it was one of the more inspired moments so far.

 I'm watching it... the gay Jewish guy is really funny. The will they/won't they thing has been brought in WAY too early in a 24 episode season (see the naked thing in ep 3) and Zooey is annoying the shit out of me. PLEASE stop singing/humming woman!!!

I also watched an episode of Happy Endings S2 yesterday (the Wayans bro stayed with that instead)... not as daft as I recall and might even go back to it.
