All I want to know is how much it's going to cost me......it's that simple.

Let us all assume for a second that it's decently specced, loaded with goodies and has a decent launch line-up.

How much (and this is a question for everyone) would you be willing to pay out of interest, what's the absolue maximum you'll part with for a new console?

I'd love it to launch at around £300, but I'd be willing to dish out between £350 - £400. Anything above that is getting a bit steep (although I'd probably still buy it).

Seriously, that much?  How much was XBox at Launch? I don't rememeber.
£300 is max, more than that and I'll stick with the previous one and mop up all the titles I've missed.

I'd be about the £300 mark on release as well. If it was much more I'd probably wait a bit for a price drop/better bundle.

Pretty sure I'm going to order one on launch regardless of cost.

I'm going for £350 but I'd pay double if that's is what they launch at.

I think I'd happily pay up to £399.99, I wouldn't like it, but that's probably as far as they could push me.

Actually that's a lie, I'm a mug who likes shiny things, I'd pay whatever it takes truth be told.

My gut tells me we're looking at about £329.99, just a feeling.

To be honest, I can't really see it being launched under £400. The full beast anyway.

I'd like it to be £300, but I reckon it'll be somewhere around £350-£400.

I'll pay up to £400 on release, but if it's upwards of that price I'll hold off, finish off my Xbox 360 catalogue and wait for a price drop.

I can see it being £200 with a 2 year xbl contract.

I think it will be £300 (maybe £350) as MS can afford to to take a hit on these at first pass.

I'd pay pretty much anything within reason, which is prob up to £400. The way I see it, this is Microsofts next gen entry to mess up. Dont drop the ball guys!!

Ah what I intended on saying in that statement was that I expect it will cost that much BUT MS can afford to take a hit on these so hopefully it will be under £300...

Sorry!

The cynic in me thinks that as long as the Wii U Premium is still fetching £279.99 - £299.99 it's the perfect excuse Sony & Microsoft need to set their prices well into the £300+ bracket.

Assuming the Wii U doesn't undergo a dramatic price cut inside the next 12 months that is.

The cynic in me thinks MS will try to flog the console with a subsidise price. £149 and a two year contract for live at £15 a month or something. As has been trialled with the 4gb model 360 in the USA.

I hope we're looking at a minimal one off price point, the £250-300 bracket would be nice, but I'm guessing £329.99 for the gamers version, sorry the lesser version i.e. the one without Kinect 2.

Funny thing is I can see this being the first launch where the budget/lesser model is in higher demand than the premium bundle. Unless MS pull a dick move and give you a bum deal with the budget model, small/no HDD, wired controller etc.

What I can see happening sadly is MS bringing out an almost identical controller (a good thing) but using a different wireless frequency and different socket type for the wired headsets so all our old accessories are useless.

Where do people stand on backwards compatibility?

Obviously it's always nice, that goes without saying, but would you be happy for proper backwards compatibility (i.e minituarised 360 hardware inside, none of this emulation shite) to be included if that meant you had to pay more?

I guess if MS do launch two bundles then it's definitely an "extra" the hardcore contingent are probably willing to pay for.

I'd be happy to pay a few extra quid if it means having one less console cluttering up my space.

I doubt I'll be an early adopter this time though. After the RRoD debacle with the 360 I reckon I'm going to wait a while until I know for certain there's nothing inherently wrong with the hardware. Then again I might jump ship to Sony for the next gen if the reports that they're dropping the Dual Shock joypad design for the next generation are true. Obviously it depends on what they come up with to replace it of course.

Basically I'm going to wait and see.

Im interested to see whats going to be on offer. 'games consoles' are on there way out fer sure and I reckon microsoft want you to be doing everything on your next gen xbox and that includes making love to your partner.

Before people cry 'but borstal what about the gamers!' I'll say this. Regular as can be when I check what my so called friends are doing on their xboxes of an evening there will be a good 40% watching movies. Now to be sure most of them are Empire folk so will inherintly (step in Homer) be interested in movies so that makes sense. If they stick a good web browser in that puts porn more in the frame so we'll be doing a lot more with our home entertainment hub.

We are talking microsoft here so they do have a history of cock ups and charging for stuff that alienates a lot of folk so lets see what they offer. Theyve done well with 360 being first out of the blocks and with xbl. I expect more game retailers to fold though as downloading shit will be the future.

Bit of a stretch this one...

Sony are rumoured to be announcing their PS4 on 20th February, following a 'future of Playstation' tease. Sony have also said that they are going to let Microsoft announce their new console first. If (a rather large 'if') this is all correct, maybe we'll get an announcement from Microsoft about the new Xbox sometime before February 20th....

I think it depends whether this "future of Playstation tease" counts as a first move, I'm not holding my breath for anything by way of specs, release dates or launch game announcments, I still think they'll let Microsoft carry that torch first. We'll see.

Everything about the Sony announcement points to the PS4 - not sure what it is though but I'm not convinced about that...it could be something else...no idea what I just have a niggling feeling.

As I've said before - next gen is MS's to lose...

It doesn't make a difference if Sony announce the PS4 before or after the 720. It's not like either will have time to change.

Interested to see what Sony come up with for next gen. They are quite fond or revising hardware/models through the life of the console.

I wonder if they are going to go for the kitchen sink approach again! The PS3 was a beast (still is) but by all accounts is a complex beast. Cross platform games seem to suffer on it, yet dedicated games truly shine. Not so with the Xbox, even as a devout Xbox owner, some of the PS3 exclusives are stunning.

One thing I keep thinking of in regards to next gen consoles is a full HD 60fps Battlefield 4....

Thinking about it first party support for the Xbox in the way Naughty Dog support the PS3 is really lacking overall. Sony own quite a few nice little software houses now, coding specifically with the PS3 hardware in mind, which results in stuff like Uncharted & God of War.

Microsoft don't really have much in the way of a similar setup, 343 Industries would count now I suppose, but even as pretty as Halo 4 was, it's still running on a (albiet heavily modified) engine from the Bungie stone-age. It's the kind of thing purchasing Rare should have been all about, instead they're busy making Kinect Sports, **facepalm!**

If early details are to be believed the GPU Sony have earmarked for the PS4 is about 50% more powerful than the new Xbox equiveilent, which sounds like a mammoth undershoot from Microsoft, until you factor in the (again rumoured) 8GB of RAM the new Xbox has, twice that of the Playstation apparently, not too mention one or two other task specific on-board tricks to offload the work where it can. They'll be a lot closer than the raw numbers suggest I'd wager.

It'll be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Maybe we will see something substantial regarding the Gaikai purchase? Streaming games etc? Sony wont have the Blu-Ray advantage this time around so will need something to stop the Xbox720 onslaught. Sounds similar to the PS3 Xbox 360 comparison...by most accounts the PS3 had more horsepower but the differences were rarely noticed - if at all. What with MS arguably superior dev tools, better memory situation etc.

I'm an Xbox man all the way so can't wait for that but this will be interesting

I thnk that this is a cock move by Microsoft. Customers get hit in the pocket and this will lead to MORE jobs being lossed. Imagine how many 2nd hand gaming shops there is out there. Plus it stops me buying 2nd hand (which is all i can afford as i can't splash £50 for a new game each time). or trading games I know longer want.

The Microsoft stuff is still only rumours as far as I can tell. Whilst the 2nd hand thing is annoying it's the always online aspect that can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I'm not paying money for something I can't use if my internet connection is down so if Microsoft do go down that road they will instantly have lost at least one potential sale (and quite a few more from what I've read on various message boards and forums). Microsoft and Sony are seriously over estimating their brand loyalty I think, I can see this seriously biting them on the arse if either of them go through with it.

Considering getting myself a Wii U at the moment and fuck the next offering by Microsoft and Sony off completely.

Not bothered about second hand games as:

1) You can buy the game brand new and sealed online for cheaper
2) I have no idea where the game or its previous owners hands have been.
3) If on the rare occasion that I do want to sell a game I'll get more money online than trade-in.

However being restricted to one console is bollox. Down with DRM. GOG forever.
