Yeah, when I worked at a cinema (11 screen) at a peak time, there would be one member of staff for every two screens, roughly.

This was about ten years ago, and although it's pretty rare that I go to a cinema at peak time anymore, it doesn't look like they have anything like that amount of staff these days.

OK, so just walked out of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and demanded my money back, here's why:

Woman comes into a 1.30pm showing with two toddlers, both of whom have to sit on seat lifts cos they're so small, both of whom munching crunchy sweetie bags

Me thinking WTF is a parent bringing small kids into an action movie for, what are the chances of them sitting quietly during the film?

You can only see a film for the first time once.  Not going to have my experience of a franchise favourite ruined.  Got my money back no problem, explained why to the manager.

RANT OVER!!!

Out of interest, other than munching on sweets which plenty of adults do too, did these toddlers actually make any noise or disruption?

Probably just as well, prices are high enough as it is without having to cover additional staff members.

I don't know where you lot all go to the cinema, but in 15 years of cinema-going I can only think of one or two occasions where I've been bothered by noisy people in the audience, and they were normally adults.

Yeah, I've only had one occasion where I've had to ask people to be quiet, and they were a couple of middle-aged women who evidently thought The Last Samurai was worth gossiping over.

I've been fairly fortunate when it comes to fuckwits in the cinema, but there has been the odd occasion where I've actually had to comment/act because someone has seen fit to fuck up my viewing experience.

Most notably, the three little assclowns in Harry Potter 7.1 who were told, kindly, to shut the fuck up.

Nice One
I did it once during a screening of Lord Of The Rings;Return Of The King, when a couple of brats with there mum and dad starting having a popcorn fight right at the start of the film in front of me and my two eldest.Basically i told them very loudly what i'd do with the popcorn and a certain orifice, there dad swung round to make a comment, i told him where my size nine boot was also going. They moved to the front out of range, and not a peep for the rest of the film, and a couple who had been sitting beside them thanked me on the way out for dealing with the pests, but i was still a bit pissed off and told them why had'nt they said something???
Thankfully it's only been the once,as most cinema fans are like the rest of us they want a good show, not some Fuckwits spoiling the fun.
On another note many moons ago i made the mistake of taking a 3 year old to the cinema, and walked out 20 minutes into the film. The Film was Snow White, and the wife sat on with the 5 year old.I sat in the lobby with the Brat and took it for a bloody walk, till the film ended, and guess what i was'nt the only parent having to deal with a raving loon.

This is a prime example why I haven't been to the cinema (other than when Leeds Film Festival was on) for over a year. I'm not paying over £15 for two of us to get a moron spoil the 'cinema experience'. In fact that phrase should have a different meaning these days to what it used to mean.

I dont think it is intolerant. The film is a 12A and I imagine as an action film it is unsuitable for toddlers. This 12A certificate is bullshit because it means people can take their kids in who are any age- it stops cinema staff using their discretion to refuse ticket sales which should in theory be done. When I saw casino royale there was a woman with a young baby which started crying. Thankfully she went outside to calm it down. It isnt the kids fault and im glad she recognised the problem which unfortunately meant her sitting outside the rest of the film.

Its fair he got his money back.

It's no less unsuitable than the original and that was a PG.

I felt I had to come back to this thread and re-declare my hate for 12A.

What REALLY pisses me off is how some films are cut just so they can get a bigger audience. Take The Woman In Black for example: the BBFC originally rated it a 15, but the studio wanted kids to be able to see it, so in order for the BBFC to rate it lower (a ridiculous 12A) they had to make cuts - CUTS ON SOME OF THE SCARIEST BITS. Horror films are made to scare us, not to be tamed down so they don't scare us. It really grinds my gears that a horror film is being made worse just to let some coke-slurping kids in to see it. A group of twelve year olds were sitting in the row in front of me when I saw it, and all of them cared more about their sweets than the film, and they wouldn't stop chatting throughout. Just thinking about it makes me Completely ruined the experience.

I actually quite liked the film but I'm interested to see the uncut version. Probably wait for the Blu or download the US version.

I liked it too, very much, but it probably wasn't as good as it should have been because of aforementioned reasons. And like I said, just the overall enjoyment of actually watching the film was completely shattered. I'm looking forward to a home viewing of the un-cut version

SPOILERS

While I'm unaware of the extent of the cuts, it's still a very dark 12A. There's children committing suicide, a woman dying in childbirth (complete with blood), a young child drowning in mud and an air of menace and dread throughout the entire film.

Frankly, I'm amazed it was a 12A!

Fixed that for you.

MORE SPOILERS

Also there's a child immolating herself, the above mentioned drowned in mud child's rotting corpse on the bed. But yeas the 12A is a bit annoying as there were loads of teenage girls screaming their heads of in the screening I went to which was fucking distracting.

Sorry about that, my post's amended.

My screening did have kids in it, but they weren't too bad, and the entire cinema, kids and adults, collectively screaming at the scariest parts really added to the experience, I've not seen that in a long time.

You all have it easy in the UK. We have 15A here in Ireland which was surely agreed to by the worst type of film hating misanthrope.

This is one of the many reasons the missus and I invested in a massive TV and Blu Ray player. The only downside is that we have to wait for them to be released for home viewing, but its always worth the wait. Saves getting caught up in any hype too

I do love going to the cinema, but I think I have to pick and choose my times better. Usually if I go to a late showing, preferably during the week, it's fine (even at Cineworld) because it's just people who actually want watch the film. There's no popcorn, hotdogs or buckets of coke in sight. I saw TWIB mid-day on a Saturday, which, as I've already described, was just hell.

Same here. I find either early Cineworld screenings (before 11/12) or later ones (after 7) you get the best crowd. Of course I have been wrong a few times: with stinkingly drunk people showing up at all times.

I think at the time the intent of the BBFC was to create a 15A at some point. But presumably they've not been able to for political reasons.

All this is why I'm absolutely terrified of Prometheus getting a 12A over here. Fox are pushing VERY hard on Ridders to make it a PG-13 (he is also filming an R-rated version) in the States which, at the very best, means a 15 over here, more likely a 12A if the cuts Fox demand in the States travel to the UK.

Terrible state of affairs.

Likewise - saw The Grey last week but honestly can't remember the last time I went to the cinema before that.

One way I've found around the 12a/kids/idiots problem in the last couple of years is to catch the first show of the film on a Sunday morning - much quieter and isn't horribly early in the day anyway so still plenty of time for a lie in. Potentially difficult to arrange with friends but if it's just me and Mrs Marwood then works out pretty well.

You still make the odd trip to the cinema though dont you? Didnt you recently see MI:4?

I dont often go to the cinema as much as i used to but its more to do with the lack of any decent films more than anything.I very rarely get trouble with other cinemagoers when i do go.The thing that annoys me the most is when people are texting on their phones. In the dark auditorium, the light of the mobile stands out and is very distracting. So annoying!

And the people who takes their phones out always seem to be sitting at the front, so it distracts everyone. I think they do it on purpose.

When i saw MI:4 at christmas, some bloke sitting in front of me was texting like mad throughout the first hour of the film.I lost my patience when he actually started dialing a number and his phone made loud beeps.I gave a swift kick to the back of his seat and he hurriedly put it away.

Sometimes a quick reminder that they are not at home/in the pub does the trick.
