The follow-up that will probably make it over here - by odd coincidence, given our discussion yesterday- is actually a remake of Kobayashi's Hara-Kiri

Ok, now it's high on my must see list. My only worry is like you said, it might get distrubution over here. Back in the early '00s almost everything Miike did was released here, but since about 2005 a lot of his stuff never seems to make it past Asia. Makes me wonder what other great stuff from Japan, Korea etc never reaches us.

Well...

Taking "here" to mean UK, and "early '00s" to mean 2000 - 2004, these were released:

- MPD Psycho (series = 2000, DVDs = 2005)
- The City of Lost Souls (film = 2000, DVD = 2002)
- Dead or Alive 2: Birds (film = 2000, DVD = 2003)
- Visitor Q (film = 2001, DVD = 2004)
- Ichi the Killer (film = 2001, DVD = 2003)
- Agitator (film = 2001, DVD = 2004)
- The Happiness of the Katakuris (film = 2001, DVD = 2003)
- Dead or Alive: Final (film = 2002, DVD = 2007 ?)
- Deadly Outlaw: Rekka (film = 2002, DVD = 2010)
- Sabu (film = 2002, DVD = 2004 - I think)
- Graveyard of Honor (film = 2002, DVD = 2003)
- Gozu (film = 2003, DVD = 2004)
- One Missed Call (film = 2004, DVD = 2008)
- Three... Extremes (film = 2004, DVD = 2006)

Then there's those from that period that didn't make it over here:

- The Guys from Paradise
- Onna Kunishuu Ikki
- Kikuchi-jō monogatari: sakimori-tachi no uta
- Zuiketsu gensō: Tonkararin yume densetsu
- Family
- Shangri-La
- The Man In White
- Yakuza Demon
- Zebraman
- Izo

So whilst 13 of his 23 early 2000's films (plus a series) did make it over here, most took 2+ years, and some took 4 or 5 and Deadly Outlaw Rekka took over 7 years...
I guess that means there's still a vague possibility some of the outstanding 10 could get UK releases eventually. I ain't holding my breath, though.

But you're right in that most of his films from 2005 onwards haven't made it over here (at least yet). There's only Suzuki Western Django and 13 Assassins I can think of. I guess the Ichi The Killer ignited a lot of interest in Miike for a while, but it's rather died off since.

It'd be on my list, but there's no point me making one, as I don't get to the cinema any more, so it'll be the year after when I get to see it....

I'll probably go see it, and I liked the trailer - but I wouldn't particularly notice if it wasn't out this year. I can't think of any superhero films I'd really anticipate, so much. Although I like Garfield so I'd probably give the Spiderman a look, too. That's this year, isn't it?

Yeah, Spiderman is this year, though I like Garfield as well, I'm not convinced by rebooting it already. But we'll see.

As for the Avengers...I'll see it, but I just can't see it being as amazing as Marvel will hope it is to be honest. The format provides as many flaws as nice things. But at least there won't be any annoying links to the Avengers anymore.

The one thing you'd hope is it doesn't make the same mistake of multiple intros that they did with First Class, and just assume going in that everyone has seen the others or knows about them.

I didn't even realise there was a new Maddin coming out (and yes, I did need to google it ).

I'm just not sure about Brave. Although it can hardly be as bad as Cars, so that's a likely positive.

War Horse - still looks like Black Beauty to me. And that speech that's given at the end of the trailer sounds so American it makes me cringe.

Forgot, also really looking forward to Hyde Park on Hudson. Bill Murray & Laura Linney just has to be good. And it has Olivia Colman playing Queen Elizabeth. It's the kind of thing that could even get Murray in the Oscar race again.

I only found out about this a few weeks ago and I'm really looking forward to it now. Moonrise Kingdom should also be worth waiting for. That is if you're a Wes Anderson fan I guess. I'm still waiting for Anderson and Murray to recreate the Rushmore magic (their collaborations since have been good but not to the same level imo). Hopefully this will be it.

I like Black Beauty too - not a fan of repeats though. I think Thewlis was in the last version of that as well!

I'm happy to see The Artist on these lists - isn't it January before the proper release? I thought this week was only central London? That doesn't count

Oh yeah I do really wanna see The Artist, for sure.

Black Beauty was the first film I saw at the cinema. I didn't understand why the girls were crying. I remember more about the building and excitement than the actual movie though.

I think my mum has been shagged by more forum members than Deviaition's mum. I don't know whether I should be flattered or depressed by this.

We should have a sign to highlight threads where people haven't claimed to have sex with each others mothers.

I bet we'd hardly ever use it

The trouble for me with this list is there's a lot of films I'm curious about, but in no way anticipating. I'll see The Hobbit, Prometheus, Django, Batman, etc, but I can't work up much passion about them right now.
