ORIGINAL: elab49 The follow-up that will probably make it over here - by odd coincidence, given our discussion yesterday- is actually a remake of Kobayashi's Hara-Kiri Ok, now it's high on my must see list. My only worry is like you said, it might get distrubution over here. Back in the early '00s almost everything Miike did was released here, but since about 2005 a lot of his stuff never seems to make it past Asia. Makes me wonder what other great stuff from Japan, Korea etc never reaches us. Well... Taking "here" to mean UK, and "early '00s" to mean 2000 - 2004, these were released: - MPD Psycho (series = 2000, DVDs = 2005) - The City of Lost Souls (film = 2000, DVD = 2002) - Dead or Alive 2: Birds (film = 2000, DVD = 2003) - Visitor Q (film = 2001, DVD = 2004) - Ichi the Killer (film = 2001, DVD = 2003) - Agitator (film = 2001, DVD = 2004) - The Happiness of the Katakuris (film = 2001, DVD = 2003) - Dead or Alive: Final (film = 2002, DVD = 2007 ?) - Deadly Outlaw: Rekka (film = 2002, DVD = 2010) - Sabu (film = 2002, DVD = 2004 - I think) - Graveyard of Honor (film = 2002, DVD = 2003) - Gozu (film = 2003, DVD = 2004) - One Missed Call (film = 2004, DVD = 2008) - Three... Extremes (film = 2004, DVD = 2006) Then there's those from that period that didn't make it over here: - The Guys from Paradise - Onna Kunishuu Ikki - Kikuchi-jō monogatari: sakimori-tachi no uta - Zuiketsu gensō: Tonkararin yume densetsu - Family - Shangri-La - The Man In White - Yakuza Demon - Zebraman - Izo So whilst 13 of his 23 early 2000's films (plus a series) did make it over here, most took 2+ years, and some took 4 or 5 and Deadly Outlaw Rekka took over 7 years... I guess that means there's still a vague possibility some of the outstanding 10 could get UK releases eventually. I ain't holding my breath, though. But you're right in that most of his films from 2005 onwards haven't made it over here (at least yet). There's only Suzuki Western Django and 13 Assassins I can think of. I guess the Ichi The Killer ignited a lot of interest in Miike for a while, but it's rather died off since.
