Can anybody give me recommendations on sci-fi films? It's a major blind spot for me.

You don't have to say Metropolis, I know that one.

I havent even watched a fraction of what I wanted to for this poll

The Grand Duke's FInances. It was on a dual release with Phantom (which I watched last night). I'm switching them around with Harold Lloyd at the moment. When that sets finished I'll go on to the L&H.

Is there any elasticity on the deadline? I'm going to see a 'new' Lubitsch on the 17th - Loves of the Pharaoh.

Lots of elasticity. Especially since we forgot to add in an email  We were just talking about extended it by up to a month.

Lucky you! Has that one only recently been discovered/restored?

Yeah, we were thinking of giving an extra month to this, because it seems like a decade where lots of people are discovering new stuff. But starting the next decade poll on the date this one was due to end, have them both overlapping and that way those who are happy with their 20s lists can make a start on the next decade.

I think so - a few bits have been around but there was a major project that was completed at the tail end of last year. It sounds pretty interesting as it's more of a large scale project, more of an epic.

I do regret not being able to see Phantom of the Opera with live music on a whirlitzer though - but I've already got 3 films in a row the same day and one clashes.

I imagine that means a dvd release will follow quite soon after then. It really is great seeing the number of silent films that have been getting restored over the last couple of years.

Is this a silent film festival then? What else is playing?

No, it's the main Glasgow Film Festival. They've also got a little seen Tavernier on and my husband has demanded we go and see The Pirate as well . But I think they're trying hard for some special events this year - there's a live theatre take on Triplets of Belleville before the main festival starts and they're also showing The Maggie on The Tall Ship in Glasgow.

I may drop an e-mail to them to reserve a copy though - it's a very decent price for the work.

The bit at the bottom suggests sending them an e-mail to reserve a copy and they'll get back to you as soon as they've run off the first editions. I'm sure one in English will be fine - or Babelfish should still be around?

Just in case anyone was going to try and rush a list in, the new deadline is the 11th March

A quick double-check - although sometimes shown as 1929, when it was shot, People on Sunday seems to universally now show as 1930. I just wanted to make sure that was the view being taken here

I found it on one of the crib lists I was looking at for the 20s but I was sure I'd included it in my 30s top 20. THought I'd better check

Well spotted. Its one which I had seen on a 20s list so moved the dvd into the 'to watch' pile for this list, and then read the case to find it said 1930. I have to agree that it seems to be listed as 1930 pretty much everywhere now so I think it probably needs to be left to the 30s poll. I will check with Rawls though.

Sorry, I hadnt seen this. *sigh*. I have been following the news of the release of Napoleon pretty, closely so I was aware of this showing and the planned one in London on the 30th November 2013 that Carl Davis mentioned in an interview (www.in70mm.com/news/2011/davis/index.htm). Such a shame that it seems that were still years away from getting a dvd/blu ray, if ever.

Annoyingly Sky Movies have been (and still are I think) showing All Quiet On The Western Front as released in 1929 rather than 1930. I'm going to be double checking any 1929 releases pretty closely before submitting my list.

Seems quite an odd mistake, but it is Sky   Another one from my 30s longlist. Although WIki says Italy banned it in 1929, which is quite something - I suppose on the book, alone.
