I watched the first one again the otherday as I've started to re-watch them on Blu Ray, absolutely amazing. The wife hates War films/programmes and I'm not really bothered but I'm forcing her to watch this because I know how good it is, even if you don't like the genre. She enjoyed the first one.....

Just finished the following two episodes. I never knew James McAvoy was in the show.

Carentan is a fantastic episode, superb all round, apart from that mistake given at the ending about Blithe. You'd think they'd get something like that right!

It'd also be interesting to know what went on between these two episodes, as there's a two months span from when Easy is removed from the front line to Market Garden. I guess that means it's time to read the book again.

Two more episodes tonight, Crossroads, directed by Tom Hanks and Bastogne.

The use of flashbacks for Crossroads is very effective, and a change of pace from the straightforward approach to other episodes. Bastogne is probably my favourite so far, though favourite probably isn't really the best way to describe it. It's just so bleak yet captivating.

The Breaking Point and The Last Patrol tonight. The first is terrifying and heartbreaking in equal measure, but a really great episode for Spiers, Lipton and Compton. The Last Patrol is interesting, the resentment they feel to the guys who missed Bastogne, it's the first time everybody seems to be completely tired and weary.

Just finished the final two episodes and both left me all misty-eyed. The very last scene, with E company playing baseball I find to be incredibly sad and oddly uplifting. It�s just a shame that a few of the men were left out of Winters� narration.

It is a show that benefits from watching a few times though. I think the first time I saw it, I was still unsure as to who certain people were halfway through the series (and it must be said, that the details and processes of ranks and military organisation still puzzles me a bit)

It�s been a long time since I enjoyed watching a TV show so much, certainly in my top 3 shows. Excellent.

If you look at the wikipedia page for the town of Foy, featured in episode 7, there are some photos of the monument to Easy Company.

And what happened to Sgt Ranney, played by Stephen Graham. He was in the first twp episodes, and was involved in the fight at Brecourt, but not after that and I don't recall seeing him die.

I never realised Babe and Doc Roe were played by english actors. Great accents.

Checked Doc Roe's imdb page and he hasnt done much since then, bit of a waste as he was one of my favourite character/performances and that was not far off being my fave episode.

I saw a couple of these when I was in Normandy last week - even more impressive in real life - I was very tempted.

Some great prints in that set.

Has anybody read the books written by Easy company members? I think it was Castor a while back who read the ones by Winters and Webster. Compton, Malarkey and a joint book by Heffron and Guarnere are also available.

I didn't realise Compton & Malarky had done one. I might see if I can fish out Compton's. Yeah I've read Winters' and Websters. Winters is great because it goes into more detail about stuff we already know. And obviously it goes further in terms of his home life and Easy's time in Toccoa and England etc. Websters is particularly good though becuase there is a lot of stuff that isn't in the series. But also becuase he was a proper writer - he goes into it a bit more and philosophises on stuff. It was also written in about 1951 and not in the wake of Band Of Brothers.

I've put off buying Babe and Bill's so far because I kind of know it's just gonna be more of the same. Might still get it one day though.

Also i just finished rewatching Band of Brothers and it was even better and even more harrowing this second time around. There were a couple of times i was nearly brought to tears - firstly in Why We Fight when they walk into the concentration camp and secondly in Points during the baseball game. Just completely hit me what all these blokes had gone through and the sacrifices they had made. An absolutely astounding series and i wish we could have seen more and learnt more about each member of Easy Company. As soon as i can i'm gonna lay my hands on a copy of the book or Winters' autobiography.

As tv goes it's up there with The Wire.

I'm just about to rewatch the 4th season of The Wire so we'll see. I can't help thinking that one of the major reasons why BOB is so good is because it's not only based on reality but that what was happening in reality was so important. Certainly far more important than cops fighting drugs, even if that is extremely important itself. I think it also helps having just watched World At War.

I have World At War to watch. It was on BBC 2 a few months ago and I haven't got around to seeing it yet. The parts I did manage to catch looked excellent.

I've just found out about another book. We Who are Alive and Remain: Untold Stories From the Band of Brothers

I bought this in HMV after a recommendation on Saturday. I was a bit weary of it at first as I really cant take to war movies/programmes. But I stuck the first disc in yesterday morning. Its absolutley tremendous. I warmed to every character, even Sobel who seemed to be battling some issues behind all that shouting. I never cared about characters as much as I found myself caring about the boys of Easy Company, which is a huge thing for me to say.

Favourite characters were Malarkey and Lipton. I dont know why, I just took to them. I think its because I love Scott Grimes a wee bit and Lipton just seemed so vulnerable all the time. He never had any idea of the respect he gained and it was humbling to see someone like that.

I was shocked at how much the last two episodes affected me. Why We Fight was tremendous and the emotion hit me like a brick. I didnt even notice the tears streaming down my face. The clincher was when the prisoners were clinging onto the arm of Winters. The discovery of the Camp was so subtle and it really hit home that these guys didnt know what this was and were seeing it for the very first time. Imagine seeing that first hand and having no idea what was happening.

I loved Points. It was so optimistic but it was never forgotten that they werent out the woods yet. And oh my word, The baseball game had me in floods of tears! I was hysterical.

Roll on the next viewing (which will no doubt be tomorrow!)

There's something about Lipton that makes him such a popular character. He barely does anything, but even during his episode i really liked him.

The missus just had her Virgin HD installed at the weekend and although there is next to nothing available in HD on the linear channels, the on demand HD content isn't half bad, including (you guessed it!) Band Of Brothers!

I remember watching it when it originally aired on BBC 2, and I loved it. I was tempted to buy the Blu Ray box set as it's only 26 quid on Play. Having rewatched the first three episodes in HD, I reckon I will end up buying it. It looks stunning in HD.

As for the first three episodes, simply great, great stuff. The missus didn't have kind words after Currahee, she didn't like seeing Ross from Friends not being funny (I reminded her that he isn't actually funny in Friends either). However, she's starting to come round to it. I know that by the time we get to Why We Fight she'll feel a lot differently and she will be in floods of tears. I mean, she cried at Jersey Girl so surely this will break her no problem!

Unfortunately I dont think Virgin has the last episode. Last time I checked its only 9 episodes on there.

That's always been a problem with thier VOD service... random missing episodes!

However, all 10 are currently available so I'm going to have to watch them all quick while they're there. Anyway, I still think I'm going to get the Blu Ray box set as it's a ruddy steal at �26. Think we're going to try to squeeze another three episodes in tonight.

Talking to some people at work today about it and it's amazing just how many people have never heard of the show. How have people missed this?!

Lipton is my favourite as well, with Winters, Compton and Malarkey very close behind.
