ORIGINAL: Gimli The Dwarf Just finished the final two episodes and both left me all misty-eyed. The very last scene, with E company playing baseball I find to be incredibly sad and oddly uplifting. It's just a shame that a few of the men were left out of Winters' narration. It is a show that benefits from watching a few times though. I think the first time I saw it, I was still unsure as to who certain people were halfway through the series (and it must be said, that the details and processes of ranks and military organisation still puzzles me a bit) It's been a long time since I enjoyed watching a TV show so much, certainly in my top 3 shows. Excellent. If you look at the wikipedia page for the town of Foy, featured in episode 7, there are some photos of the monument to Easy Company. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foy,_Belgium And what happened to Sgt Ranney, played by Stephen Graham. He was in the first twp episodes, and was involved in the fight at Brecourt, but not after that and I don't recall seeing him die. I actually visited Foy as part of a Battle of the Bulge battlefield tour two years ago. I have some pictures here for anyone who's interested: http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/597/1313036xeapdeoq.jpg http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/4083/1313425namirn3f.jpg http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1435/1313619ku4ohnrj.jpg http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/603/1313730istdgs9p.jpg http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2037/1313914cspgmnol.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/6879/13131140x5lud2n5.jpg The last one is overlooking the memorial to the other side of the clearing, the woods as seen in the last but one photo are behind me in that shot. "BoB" is a fantastic series and certainly the best one I've ever seen. I have both the DVD and Blu-ray box sets (embossed)! I watched a few episodes of "The Pacific" and I couldn't quite take to it. There was one very good episode where they're enjoying some R'n'R in Australia and you see how they try to explore relationships with women, and how one lady broke it off with a marine as she didn't want her mother to be heartbroken if he was killed. But for some reason, I wasn't compelled to keep watching. I wasn't sure whether some of the sex thrown in was just there for titillation, which is kind of the norm these days. I do think there's potential for a two/four-part adaptation of Stephen E. Ambrose's "Pegasus Bridge": I've been to the site of Pegasus Bridge (well technically it's a replica as they removed it and rebuilt the bridge) and of course to Café Gondrée. Amazing how they landed those Horsa gliders exactly where they wanted to and pull off that attack. I'd definately recommend sticking with The Pacific. Whilst it's not as good as Band Of Borthers it really picks up when the Marines land in Peleliu and is definately worth watching.
