 I really can't remember that much of what happened after the freeze frame, but I do remember reading how much people disliked that it happened I couldn't really see the problem. Once I've finished with the current HOF films, Source Code is top of a pile of DVDs I need to watch, so who knows what I'll think this time.

I'd be happy to give this a shot next year.

Source Code - Sucessfully blends Sci-Fi, action thrills, with engaging romance plot, solid acting and I didn't mind the ending.

Never Let Me Go - Very moving and visually beautifully.

Submarine - Mostly solid for a debut, but a little too cold for me, and am I the only one who thinks Alex Turner is smug git?

Hugo - Not seen

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Mostly good with great effects, but overated for sure.

 Bugger me. Talk about an underwhelming start to the top 10! Certainly in comparison to what has already come & gone.

Source Code - Agree with rawls. Excellent until the completely unnecessary last 5 minutes.

Never Let Me Go - Criminally underrated.

Submarine - Criminally overrated.

Hugo - The closest I've come to being fully satisfied by a 3D projection.

ROTPOTA - The apes are great, the humans ain't.

Sadly only one of my 20 is in the top 5, 2 in the top 10. It wasn't either of these, so at least I managed a top 3 entry

I enjoyed Tree of Life a lot more second time round, though I’m thinking TM should go back to longer gaps between projects…True Grit is superb.

 Tree of Life was flawed - who pointed out that the Sean Penn bits were like Willem Dafoe's film-within-a-film in Mr. Bean's Holiday? Dead fucking on, that person And naff dinosaurs - but was mainly great and I'm looking forward to a rewatch soon.

True Grit was excellent. One of the Coens best and should have won the big Oscars that year.

 Source Code - I enjoyed this quite a bit

Never Let Me Go - Fantastic, Mulligan and Garfield are fantastic and Knightley also puts in a good performance

Submarine - Excellent, this really took my by surprise. Fantastic soundtrack too

Hugo - Just brilliant

ROTPOTA - Probably surprise of last year for me, expected this to be nothing more than watchable but I thought it was great fun. Draco Malfoy's accent was fucking atrocious though

Tree of Life - Very good. Pitt and Chastain are fantastic

True Grit - Up there with the Coen's finest

Black Swan - Brilliant. Portman is superb

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - Didn't enjoy this much although a reappraisal is in order perhaps. I'd only just finished watching the TV series for the first time before I watched it and it paled in comparison (like most things really).

Drive - Swoon

Black Swan – Meh. Double Meh. As with all Aronofsky films I find the initial impact is rapidly dulled and with the exception of Beautiful Girls I find Portman a weak screen presence; hopefully Lynne Ramsay will rectify this.
  
TTSS – Excellent. Obviously it can’t compete with the supreme television adaptation but it’s still quality filmmaking.

Drive – A fantastic film, one I appreciate more with each subsequent viewing.

 Slight catchup for me

Kill List - Superb film, one of the best horrors I've seen in a fair while
127 Hours - I like it a lot but it suffered on a re-watch
Melancholia - Another brilliant film from Von Trier, career-bests from nearly everyone especially Dunst.
The King's Speech - Excellent performances and a top cast and the film itself is quite good
Blue Valentine - Fantastic film. Emotionally draining but just really goddamn good.
The Fighter - I really enjoyed it, but that could have been just because I really liked the cast.
Source Code - I was blind-sided by how much I liked Source Code.
Never Let Me Go - Excellent film, Mulligan and Garfield are both brilliant.
Submarine - I still haven't seen it
Hugo - Absolutely lovely. Scorsese's best since Casino I'd say.
Tree of Life - I didn't think much of it when I first saw it, but a rewatch completely changed my opinion. Truly one of a kind.
True Grit - Really need to get around to a re-watch but I loved it.
Black Swan - Brilliant, and Portman is immense.
Tink Tailor Soldier Spy - Great, with some really excellent performances.
Drive - Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan The film itself is absolutely amazing as well. My favourite of last year.

I would do a quick full list rundown but I'm lazy Arietty and A Seperation not being in the Top 10 depresses me a tad, but still really excellent list.

Oh dear, how wrong you are and she is amazing in Black Swan

Tree if Life - Patchy, but at least a passionite with some stunning performances. I too need to rewatch it, by the directors high standards it is not one of his best, but by most other filmmaker's it might have been a masterpiece.

True Grit - A good old fashioned romp, with some engaging performances and exciting set pieces.

Black Swan - A surrealist masterpiece, stunning colours, music, and committed performances. Great special effects make up too.

TTSS - Perfectly paced thriller, with a layered plot, outstanding cast and powerful color schemes. Was even more engrossed second time around.

Drive - Said enough about this, but one of the most intriguing and thought provoking movies of last year, with two of the finest actors currently working.

Can't compare about that top three even if it didn't quite match mine Would have liked Blue Valentine to be higher is what I will add.

 Tree if Life - Quite literally visual poetry. Phenomenal.

True Grit - Very reasonable, but for me, one of the most overrated works by the Coens.

Black Swan - One of the best depictions of an actor losing themselves in a role that I've seen. Loses its impact a bit with repeated viewings but the theatricality of it is extremely appropriate.

TTSS - Excellent low-key work with outstanding performances all round. I've still to see it for a second time which I hope to rectify in the new year.

Drive - Only A Separation was better for me in 2012. The soundtrack is ludicrously amazing and the first 15 minutes remain as one of my greatest ever contemporary cinematic experiences. A stone cold arthouse exploitation classic. It will also be the very first Blu Ray I'll buy.

Drive at number one is great stuff. Genuinely think that along with Tree Of Life it's my favourite film of the last 5 years at least.
