Neds 7.5/10 Truly compelling and unique vision of bad parenting and youth gang culture.
X-Men 1st Class 5/10 The CGI hampered a very impressive cast, and there were not enough depth or fresh ideas on show for my liking.
Bridesmaids 8/10 Enough said on this one, but I thought it was very sharp and touching, while also giving the boys a run for their money on the gross out factor.
Arietty 6.5/10 Slightly underwalming Ghibli offering. It works well for kids not so much for adults.
A Separation 10/10 Breath taking film making almost like watching a great play you don't want to end, masterful script, beautifully balanced characters, powerful performances and stunning direction. PERFECTION!!
The Skin I Live in 9/10 Deeply disturbing, but also exciting thriller with a fine twist on a old horror theme and expertly handled twist. Maybe the directors finest film ever.
Midnight in Paris 7.5/10 Fresh, entertaining, lavish and maybe most importantly romantic. Woody's best film since 1997.

So eleb what do you have against JGL?

Nothing - I thought I made that clear?

Apart from a few, most of the remaining films are connected to the Oscars - winners, nominees and OMG WTF were they thinking not nominating this one. Kind of inevitable as they've had the benefit of being more prominent to viewers so more will have seen them.

Oh okay I read it the other way thinking you meant that by standing next to another bad actor wouldn't help him, but you actually meant standing next a good one exposes his weaknesses further, fair enough

 Only Elab would include snarky little digs at films in a best of 2011 countdown. Truly an enemy of all films.

In any event, I would be happy to finish off this thread if Elab doesn't want to do it anymore. I'm holiday at the mo and I have way too much time on my hands.

Kill List - fantastic. Should be higher.

Attack The Block - liked it a lot.

127 Hours - loved it at the cinema. Played even better on repeat.

Melancholia - looks amazing at times, ponderous pace at others.

The King's Speech - good acting and generally pretty entertaining.

Blue Valentine - tough, but brilliant. Williams should have won the Oscar.

The Fighter - meh. So cliched it feels spoofy. Leo's Oscar win is baffling.

We Need To Talk About Kevin - tough to watch, mainly because I've never seen the sexy librarian again.

Senna - A really good documentary that made me interested in F1. Briefly.
127 Hours - Franco should've walked that Oscar
I Saw the Devil - Great, great stuff
The King's Speech - Good. Nothing spectacular, but very very good
The Fighter - Much better than it had any right to be

 Attack the Block - Meh, didn't love or hate this. Thought it was alright.
Senna - Great doc about the great man.
127 Hours - Franco puts in a good performance but the film left me fairly cold
Blue Valentine - Fantastic, Williams is immense
The Fighter - I like it, agree with matty regarding Leo's Oscar though. How she got it ahead of Amy Adams in the same film or Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit is absolutely baffling.

 Kill List is astonishing. Watched it again a few nights back, think it'll be regarded as one of the great horrors in years to come.

Attack the Block - Great fun

Senna - Didn't care about the man or the sport before the film. Didn't care about them after the film.

127 Hours - Alright

Melancholia - Incredible. Dunst was a revelation.

I Saw the Devil - Oh hell yeah.

The King's Speech - Some fine performances

Blue Valentine - Heart-breaking

The Fighter - Ok. Leo won the Oscar because she missed out on winning for Frozen River. Also because it was a far less subtle performance. If I was the real woman I'd loathe this film because they make her so unsympathetic at every turn.

We Need to Talk About Kevin - Not as good as We Need to Talk About Alan, but still very good.

See, I completely understand that this accounts for a hell of a lot of wins. But I always wonder how a hugely disparate group of people suddenly decide it's one person's turn in particular to win for missing out before. I mean, by that logic, shouldn't Adams have won as she'd had two previous nominations to Leo's one?

And is Hathaway going to win this year for missing out in Rachel Getting Married?

 Yeah, I mean there's no group decision, but I think it's part of the campaigning and the general feeling. Melissa Leo - been around a long time, often slugging away in character parts, finally broke through into the big time, had a lot of buzz and missed out. Now here she is in a film that's not only got her another nom, but it's a best picture/director nominee, which means a lot more people will see it, she's playing a real person, and there's a tragic real-life story mixed in with the underdog winning the day.

Will Hathaway win this year? Depends on the reception for the performance. It's weird, some people just pick up that buzz that they've become due a win, others just get seen as lucky to be nominated. Take Eddie Murphy, he was the frontrunner going into the Oscars, yet you never hear talk of him being due a win now.

Attack the Block's good but I still wish the Aliens had won.
127 Hours is decent.
I Saw The Devil's fantastic.
The King's Speech is amazingly feelgood. My second favourite film of last year.

Kill List is brilliant.

Attack the Block – Took a couple of watches but has gone up in my estimations since that initial viewing.  

Senna - Loved it. Anyone else seen The Killer Years?

127 Hours – Meh. Really don’t like Franco and I think I have the same problem with Into the Wild.

I Saw the Devil – To be one of my first viewings 2013.

The King's Speech – Meh. Bah! Humbug!

 Kill List - majestic. Just as unnerving during the arguments over pyrex dishes as it is with the freaky deaky stuff towards the end.

Attack the Block – A british urban sci fi siege film. Great!

Senna - A complete triumph of the process of editing. Fantastic.

127 Hours – Very solid & holds ones attention very despite its obvious limitations.

“Melancholia - Arguably Von Trier's most satisfying work. Aside from Cannes, Dunst did not receive the credit she deserved.

I Saw the Devil – Still to see.

The King's Speech – Awards-baiting, but an extremely enjoyable awards-baiting experience.

Blue Valentine – A wee bit like that Cassavettes effort. Brutally honest, Gosling is excellent but this is Williams's film.

The Fighter – Another awards baiter. Felt like a bunch of actors 'acting' rather than an attempt to portray anything genuine. Decent though.

We Need to Talk About Kevin - Brilliant. Ramsay takes on an extremely difficult text to adapt & makes it work on her own terms. One of last years best.

Kill List - Uneven, Sightseers is better.

Attack the Block - Very enjoyable, well crafted for a debut feature.

Senna - Very compelling.

127 Hours - I'm no Franco fan but in this he was excellent and the film was gripping for me.

Melanchola - Far from Von Trier's best.

I Saw the Devil - I didn't see it so can't comment

King's Speech - I like the performances more than the film.

Blue Valentine - Just stunning, scary and true to life with two itch perfect performances, should have been much, much higher.

The Fighter - It was alright nothing special.

We Need To Talk About Kevin - Like QN one of my films of the year.

Never Let Me Go is amazingly good
Submarine - Great performances, I couldn't believe how accomplished Moss already is as a director, and that soundtrack is gorgeous.
Hugo - Marty once again proves why he's the best director in the world
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Apes are great, humans not so much.

Do you think it wouldn't be as good if it stopped at the freeze?
