I thought Attack of the Clones was being re-released in 2013?

A picture of a big, computer-generated creature. F**k me sideways. I am so excited by even the thought of this film now. I am shedding a tear as I type. It's... Wow, I mean it really is a CG-created Monster! yeah...

Burrough's Barsoom series invented the genre of the space romance 60 years before the first Star Wars film, yet inevitably idiots are going to make cheap comparisons so may as well get used to it.

No, really? I had no idea.

Movie still looks bland and uninteresting.

That's possibly the worst CGI monster in a sandy colosseum I've seen since Attack of the Clones.

I think you can be aware of the history of John Carter and still look at that picture and think "hmmmm, Geonosia". Fair? No. But still a likely reaction.

Yes, indeed, this is the original shizz right here. I am a big fan of Burroughs and everything about this movies looks sweet!! I hope this will lead to a decent Tarzan too.

go away special effect movies. you are boring. overrated and now, sadly, out of date. CGI has finally killed itself. can't we just have a movie that's NOT about a comic book or is a remake? can't anyone think up an original story anymore - even if its based on an old genre or something??? anyone? if not, why not? why don't the big studios start looking for writers who can write and not a bunch of comic book guys who are just lazy and can't think for themselves???
oh yeah, i forgot, you make lots of money.
duh!!!

Not out of date, just not used very well in a lot of films.

There are non-CGI films out there if you look....carefully! I do agree with you a tad though, I have a love hate thing eith CGI, because if used correctly, or in a subtle way it can help the story, but there are directors that go way overboard (i'm looking at you George!) and even Avatar, yes it was stunning, and beautiful in places, but mid way through watching Avatar, I got this blinding headache, because the CGI was getting too over saturated, and us audiences can spot shoddy CGI from real effects work a mile away.

But like I said, if used correctly it can help to tell a story. Even improve it. For example, Inception, although not a special effects film per say, there were instances where it was used, for example towards the end where it most notable. Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro are the only two directors I know who have learnt to utilise it effectively. Balance it out with real puppetry, model work. Wheras Lucas went CGI crazy with the Star Wars prequels. The Attack of the Clones looks like a Dreamworks or Pixar animated film in places, sorry, in 99% of the shots.

For a sci-fi nut such as myself, those shots for John Carter has whetted my appetite! Yes it does look like Return of the Jedi, it does remind you of Star Wars, lets hope we have as much fun as we did way back in the 80's when Empire and Jedi came out!

Nexus Wookie- in fairness this isn't based on a comic book but on an old sci fi novel written by that guy who wrote Tarzan King Of The Apes. So original, no, but as original as 'Jaws' for instance, that was also based on a book. Despite being a huge superhero nerd, I must say I wish they'd cut down on the comic book adaptions as well...If only because it threatens to weaken the power of the REAL classic heroes like Batman and Spider-Man.
