The Weeping Angels two parter from season 5 is terrifyingly epic, and perfectly on par with The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang!

Can I vote for Anthony Head as the Doctor, and Alan Rickman as the Master? So long as it's better than the 1996 TV movie... Have to agree though, that the Weeping Angels are brilliant baddies - and terrifying!

I will be glad if this does come out as we do seem to be going through a reboot era. I'm sure many will disagree but I am sure a lot of Star Trek fans also disagreed when they heard JJ Abrams was tinkering with Star Trek. The problem I find with the current Doctor Who is that the scriptwriting process is a closed book. The BBC will not entertain the fact that anyone bar their own writers can come up with anything better. I am sure, like myself, other fans have written scrips for Doctor Who which they think would stand up well in todays day and age, but the BBC will not let you submit them. I hope David Yates uses a new scriptwriter and gives this british institution a new and exciting twist, without Daleks or Cybermen!

For now... but as soon as casting gets underway I will start yelling unnecessarily, it's just the correct attitude for this situation. Considering the Akira backlash I'm just delicate when it comes to these sorts of things. All the same. If Alan Rickman were to be the Doctor... Well I'd be happy enough. I guess. I would also like to say that the idea of a spooky thriller based on the Weeping Angels would be an excellent film. All light and dark with little explanation and just fear... And in the cinema, a big BLACK ROOM! It would be epic. And Carey Mulligan did a good job in that. If anything, Doctor Who has become more cinematic recently and that's quite wonderful because it's become breathtakingly beautiful sometimes.
Helen. You're my favourite by the way.

I'd birth Yates' babies if he put the events of the Last Great Time War up on the big screen. The background is now mythological. The spectacle of the "Fall of Arcadia" and the demise of Davros at the Gates of Elysium with his command ship falling into the jaws of the Nightmare Child have inflamed my imagination for years. Can you just picture the awesomeness of ten million Dalek ships going boom.
Do it Yates please. Bring it on!

Hugh Laurie as the Movie Doctor.
He's british - but americans think he's american.
He's got the 'on edge' crazy factor.
For me - he'd be the ideal doctor

I 'd like to see Ian Huntley play the Doctor.

Now I know that a lot of reactionary nay-sayers will just pounce on that idea, pouring their typical fan-boy scorn...but...you know...if they just took a deep breath, actually thought about it rationally for once, and reflected on the positives of that I'm sure they could all find something to get excited about here.  Let's give Ian, and this project a chance.

the days of a film adaptation being a bigger, better version of an intellectual property seem to be over. These days you're more likely to see a cynical cash-in that's good for a strong opening weekend and not much else. The makers of Metal Gear Solid pulled out of a film version because they feared it would devalue the franchise (and I'm guessing the Bioshock developers are breathing a similar sigh of relief). I think the same would be true of a Who movie. A film version wouldn't add anything to the show as it stands now and in fact would only hurt it. It's not as if the effects or scope of a film would even be that much different to what the show can offer up.

It needs an up and coming actor and one of great skill . Benedict Cumberbatch seems ideally placed and I hope the producers dont look elsewhere. Cumberbatch's parents both worked on Dr Who years ago so it would be a nice piece of continuity to pick Cumberbatch for the Doctor.

This should not happen. Its been made by the American division of BBC Worldwide, and therefore we can expect it to be Americanised. Therefore, it won't be the same show we all love,

There's a fantastically cinematic story arc already there with the time wars, (which i believe would mean Christopher Eccleston in the title role) Alan Rickman could knock The Master out of the park, and by starting the film as a sort of prequel to the series, would be a great introduction for the uninitiated. By starting from scratch, Yates is immediately alienating loyal fans and trying to fix something that clearly ain't broke. I didn't see them recasting when they did the Star Trek films as there would have been an outcry. Can't we do the same and be be loyal to something, which has been very good for a lot of people and stay in the same BBC universe, rather than "start from scratch", just because Hollywood calls? Starting from scratch, is like saying that the BBC made a mistake, and I don't think they did...

The Doctor, like Batman, or to a lesser extent Bond, is a great character that can and should be tackled in many different mediums and I see no reason why a film version can't bring a new vision with more depth than the TV show sometimes allows.

My major sticking point though is Yates - fine he got DH Pt 2 right but my god were his other Potter films excruciatingly dull and boring - his lacklustre style could kill this off before it even gets going.

p.s. I was so happy when I got to last page and saw McKellen - he so should play an incarnation before regenerating into the younger 'main' doctor (if they are brave/stupid they could even regenerate that one in the finale)

And cast Idris Elba as the doctor and Christoph Waltz as the Master! Make em chase each other through time and space ending up on Skaro faced with an army of Daleks where they have to team up to defeat them!! Or not, whatever!

If you want the Time Wars then I think you'll find it'd be Paul McGann as the Doctor. His actions lead to him being mortally wounded and regenerating into Christopher Ecclestone and that regeneration occurs (chronologically) not too long before the new series began and he meets Rose Tyler...

I'm up for a Doctor Who movie but it needs to have someone British in the title role and if it's going to be back to the start then it should follow the TV series by casting someone with a familiar personality to his TV counterpart, an OLDER actor for the first movie (contractually obliged to shoot a regeneration scene for any subsequent sequel) adding to the craziness of a time travelling grandfather and skew younger as the film series progresses...

I'll make further comment once they have an idea of whats happening!!!

From what I have observed of fandom over the last year or so, the majority of Whovians are far from happy with the BBC's handling of such an iconic and beloved show. Unfortunately, a lot of fans have never warmed to Stephen Moffat’s writing, many who did have been disappointed with the latest series’ silly and contrived story arc. Many fans - mainly Fangirls, to be fair - are still mourning the loss of pretty boy David Tenant don’t like Matt Smith’s interpretation of the character... and let’s not mention on the abomination that was the last series of Torchwood. Moffat’s comments earlier in the year about rejecting Who Canon also had the fans up in arms and more recently, The BBC has been criticised by fans for the child-un friendly and ridiculous cost of official convention tickets.
With stories of a Doctor Who feature film circling, for me it is not so much a case of, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” more “it’s already cracked; don’t bloody make it worse”!

This is correct. His first glance in the mirror as the 9th occurs in Rose's flat, so you have to assume that his regeneration has been fairly recent.

I'm hoping that they decide to run with the proposed storyline leading on from the 90s movie, where the half human Doctor Who goes in search of his long lost father Ulysses, all predominately set in America I'd hope. I think someone like Jim Carey or Eddie Murphy would make a great Doctor Who. In fact, probably Murphy over Carey, because he could drag up and play the assistant and her fat mother too.

I could warm to that.  The most sensible post on the thread

Pauly Shore and/or Rob Schneider would leaven the tension on board the TARDIS as well.

It is a good news may be great if it done by the creators of the show itself or someone familier with this type of shows like joss whedon and the plot is about timewars. It is a bad news (The Disaster catastrophiqe kind I mean) if you let the one who butchered Harry Potter Series on the control seat for this project which is going to lead to horrific consequences (cancellation of a great show & floping in the box office)because some director who had never even seen the show before want to make a few bucks and a brand name for himself as THE DIRECTOR of THE DOCTOR but what he doesnot know that he already has one(WORST DIRECTOR EVER equally shared with Quantam of Solace Marc Foster).

" One such machine was the TARDIS, an old model machine that the Doctor stole / was stolen by shortly before the utter destruction of Gallifrey in its war with the deadly Daleks"

Actually, the Doctor had the TARDIS from the start of the series in 1963. Gallifrey wasn't destroyed in the time war with the daleks until sometime between the 8th and 9th Doctor's. (It had not yet been detroyed in the TV movie starring Paul McGann, in fact he was en route to Gallifrey at the start of the movie, but it had been destroyed when the series rebooted in 2005)

As a long standing and dedicated Dr Who fan ( personal favorite is Jon Pertwee closely followed by Tom Baker ) I think this has the potential to be very good. Benedict Cumberbach seems suitable for the role or maybe Gary Oldman with maybe Mark Strong as the Master. It needs to be darker and more serious than the new series and maybe a plot involving the Master being banished from Gallifrey would be good.

Have Paul mcgann for the 1st 20mins or so and then get him to regenerate into whoever for the movie but at the end of final film (trilogy) he will have to regenerate to Christopher eclelston.

Surely for a Hollywood Who movie Anthony Head is too old?? They'll want a young buck! So that said despite my suggestion of Idris Elba as the Doctor how about Ben Wishaw? Or go mental and have Milton Jones cast!! Lol
