That would be a genius bit of casting, I would never have thought of Colin Firth.

... but if Josh Brolin AND Colin Firth are the leads, it might be worth a look. Still stand by the fact that a film of this calibre, with such a famous twist, is a questionable one to remake. At least it'll be better than the Akira remake... yeesh

Not too sure how this will pan out, I love Park Chan Wook's movie. But Colin Firth does add a sense of intrigue to it. I will reserve all judgement, however I am still fiinding it hard to see how Hollywood would remake this gritty and shockimg twist.

I hope they keep the live eating of an octopuss in it! ha ha

He should just take 1 look at the original & then leave it the FUCK ALONE!
Cos it's gonna be a huge let down as no way will American censors let it get away with half what Park's did.

Who is the Villain in Oldboy?

The Sister fucking vengence seeking jailer or the Octopus chomping vengence seeking detainee?

Brolin has already been cast as Oh Dae-Su.

I'm not sure I understand this. Does this mean they've changed the motivation behind the imprisonment? Because those two really don't look age appropriate for that back story.

It was the same in the original though. One looked much older than the other. I remember them saying something about it on the dvd.

Spoilers for Oldboy

Yu Ji-Tae was - but it also fit into the brother-sister relationship that kicked it off (and emphasised that Oh Dae-Su had aged badly in captivity).

The other way round? They have to change things, I think.

What an interesting piece of casting...if it goes ahead. At least it gives me some faith that it won't be a complete and utter redundant mess. It will also give Firth another string to his bow, which he has steadily been adding to for the past few years. I saw A Serious Man the other day. He has certainly come along way since Bridget Jones...at least someone has. In my opinion the original is near perfect and although much loved by its followers, is still criminally underrated as I see it as one of the most important films of the last 10 years, both aesthetically and with its use of character, story and twist.

True. I didn't really think about it in Oldboy. Until it was mentioned in the extras. Just accepted they were the same age.
