The Odd Couple (1968) - 8/10 The tagline says it all: "Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are The Odd Couple...say no more."
Mister Roberts (1955) - 7/10 Not a bad film, expected a little more after reading reviews, but good overall. Jack Lemmon is great.
The Apartment (1960) - 9/10 Very funny and gripping. Lemmon is entertaining as usual.
[b]The Missing (1982) - 8/10 Was very weird to see Lemmon in a serious role after all those quirky parts. One of his absolute bests.

Check out Days Of Wine And Roses if you've not seen that with him, its a bleak, tragic film, but he's masterful in it.

I love Lemmon but The Apartment just does not appeal to me, just like Some Like It Hot.

The Odd Couple I could happily watch every night, its just superb.

The Dark Knight Rises

A fine conclustion to Nolans trilogy, but not quite as good as the previous two outings (nor the 1989 version if truth be told) imo.

7/10

Thanks! I will do. It was on my list, but going to try and watch it next now.

The Apartment was the first film of his that I've seen, so I kind of fell in love with him there and his superb quirky acting abilities.

I agree on the The Odd Couple! This was the first time I've seen it, but it's so "easy" and funny, could definitely watch it a couple more times now.

Haha, the fans would beat you to death with a script of The Dark Knight Rises for giving it 7/10

Lol I probably should stay away from the thread in the Favourite Films section then! I love Batman a lot, always have done, indeed I am also making my way through Batman Arkham City on the xbox just now; but I just felt that whilst the film was good, it was missing something.

TRON 5/5(1982)
Still the classic I remember.
The visuals, though dated, have that charming aura much in the same vein of Ray Harryhausen work, though obviously dealing with a then new medium.

Men In Black III 2/5 (2012)
Not a bad film, just not a great one either.
Josh Brolins performance certainly deserves some praise but less said about Mr Smith the better.
And through the course of the Film I was finding the lines on Tommy Lee Jones face more interesting.
I still love its pulp-retro-sci fi authentic visuals though and its clear the film makers have always leaned on the classic 50's/60's movies of that era for there overall styling for the Men In Black films.

Alien Resurrection: Special Edition (1997)

I think this is the first time I've watched a special edition release where the Director/Producers actually make a film worse, plus it doesn't help when the film is considered to be poor anyway.

Its staggering how this even left the Studio because its just slooooooooows the pace of the film all the way down. You start to wonder rether the crew of the Betty have any interest in surviving or rether the Xenomorphs have as much intention to catch them and gobble them up.

Scenario:Ok,you're on a Ship infested by galactic-alien killing machines, you have one way of escape and the ship your on is set to crash land into Earth, what do you do?

Do you run to your Ship and get there as fast as possible?
Yes would be the answer on most common knowledge responces but not for the crew of the Betty and the Clone wonder-woman.No,No,No.
The plan of action is to walk really, really slowly ,talk at length about the good ol'days and then stop,think...and then continue in the same manner as before.
There is literally so much talking in this Edition that any sense of danger for the Crew is merely a bewildering after thought. You start to wonder if the Xenomorphs actually give shit too.Maybe its just a dream, some Alien fans wish it was.

The intro into the movie also has a special qwerky, though B-movie-esq ,substance to it that really doesn't fit to the rest of the films positive visual authentic gothic style,It just seems out of place.

So if you want to bore your brains out then this would most likely be the perfect answer.

2/5

INLAND EMPIRE

Inland Empire is a strange, hypnotic, fascinating, labyrinthine, engrossing, soothing, compelling, complex, mind bending masterpiece of a film. I admit, a few scenes went over my head, and I failed to grasp their meaning, but that doesn't matter. There are so many themes to pick up on here, themes ranging from marriage, relationships, hope, death, life and the strength of women and their ability to endure and overcome horrible situations or events. It's confusing, yes, but the longer it goes on the better and more clear it becomes, even if parts still leave a lot to think about, and certain scenes some people may never understand no matter how many times they watch it, but that's all a part of it's magic and it's mystery. It's disturbing, horrifying, weird, unsettling and ominous, but it ends up being one of the most calming and strangely uplifting things I've ever watched. This is technically, visually and thematically one of the most amazing and stunning films ever made all the way until the credits finish rolling. I can not wait to experience it all again. Not sure what else to say right now since I'm still processing it, but this is more than a film, it's simply a piece of art.

Chinatown (1974) Film4

I've been meaning to see this film for a long, long time and when I did it certainly didn't disappoint.
I'm not going to go into details but what I will say is that everything about the film has a perfect balance of tension, grittiness and fear.
The cast all produce a extremely high level of performance in a very greatly written film, while the Cinematography work of John A. Alonzo is gorgeously shot throughout.
Even with its dark, twisted and undoubted finale the film will certainly get repeated viewings.

5/5 Must see.

LAWLESS (2012)

Gritty, grunting, violence but with a loyal family orientated story.

Mia Wasikowska,Dane DeHaan and Jason Clarke were the standout performances. While others performed to a Brian De Palma-esq character-ish standard.

The films violence is raw and gritty yet the films plot does feel somewhat predictable.

The films visuals and set designs were greatly detailed and the divisions in appearance between the rough-town Virgina Locals and that of the brimming new stylish confident look of the Chicago new town gangsters was of suttle interest.

Enjoyable fair with good performances, with some that stray close to characterizations, grunting accents,Yocal shootouts and some comedic wit.
This film should fill an evening or two but if you're expecting something with more depth and grounding then you may need to look elsewhere.
