Well last night I saw... There's plenty that's great about this telling of the story of the space race and the first 7 Americans to cross the finish line. Ed Harris is fantastic as John Glenn and there's a clutch of great performances around him, notably from Dennis Quaid, Fred Ward and the ever underrated Scott Glenn. Unfortunately Phillip Kaufman lets the film drag on far too long, mainly because he's fascinated with the story of some test pilots whose connection to the astronauts is ephemeral at best. After Glenn lands there's a perfect ending for the film, on a high but we're still sitting there 20 minutes later, begging it to stop. A real shame because this could have been great.
