An American In Paris. What's the name of that translating fish thingy in the Hitchhiker's Guide? Because I really could have done with one whenever that French chap started singing, especially during "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise". I haven't got a clue what the lyrics were. Why don't DVDs subtitle songs Then again, even if I did know the lyrics, perhaps it wouldn't have mattered. The Gershwins wrote some great songs, just a shame that very few made it into this film with only "I Got Rhythm" being a standout, a sequence that also featured the best dance sequences. The opening narration from the three main characters was also memorable. Levant's dream of himself as all members of a concert and the little setpiece of Kelly transforming his room were both brilliant, the highlights of the film. Caron was forgettable, the story uninteresting, the dancing rarely exciting and the less said about ballet the better, managing to outdo Broadway melody with it's over-staged irrelevance. And yet despite the fact there was a lot I didn't like, there's such an easygoing charm to the film overall that's it's almost impossible to dislike as a whole. Just Das Boot to go now, which I hope to get watched within the next 24 hours.

So, sir, we let him have it right up! And I have to report, sir, he did not like it, sir. Fellow scientists, poindexters, geeks. Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah, science! Much more better!
