Watched Underground last night and thought it was fantastic. Going to be really struggling to rank my top six. Still Das Bootay and United 93 to go.

Das Boot - A brilliant, but gruelling 5 hours in the misery tank. I was impressed by the amount of weird looking sexy Germans in it, which I found more and more appealing as they got more sickly looking and deranged.

An American In Paris. What's the name of that translating fish thingy in the Hitchhiker's Guide? Because I really could have done with one whenever that French chap started singing, especially during "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise". I haven't got a clue what the lyrics were. Why don't DVDs subtitle songs

Then again, even if I did know the lyrics, perhaps it wouldn't have mattered. The Gershwins wrote some great songs, just a shame that very few made it into this film with only "I Got Rhythm" being a standout, a sequence that also featured the best dance sequences. The opening narration from the three main characters was also memorable. Levant's dream of himself as all members of a concert and the little setpiece of Kelly transforming his room were both brilliant, the highlights of the film. Caron was forgettable, the story uninteresting, the dancing rarely exciting and the less said about ballet the better, managing to outdo Broadway melody with it's over-staged irrelevance. And yet despite the fact there was a lot I didn't like, there's such an easygoing charm to the film overall that's it's almost impossible to dislike as a whole.

Just Das Boot to go now, which I hope to get watched within the next 24 hours.

List sent yesterday/late Sat night. Wasn't easy picking at all, even the films that were brining up the rear were still really good (except for the Room obviously) and it seems a shame to have they so low ranking.

I think it was a very difficult film and was always going to be given the subject matter, but it was well handled. However, because of this, it was very clinical up right until the end and for me never really moved above docu-drama re-enactment. I don't really think it could have been done any better so soon after the event (and I'm convinced that it could have been done a lot worse), but it didn't really convince me as a cinematic effort.

Pretty great. One thing I found particularly funny was that no-one gave a shit about what Hazel had to say until they were charged for the pleasure. . Great performances all around as well. The score annoyed me at times though.
